Dropping Of The Atomic Bomb On Japan example essay topic
Millions of people were killed or injured instantly due to the impact of the Atomic Bomb and the radiation from the impact continues to kill and harm people today. The short and long term effects will always play a role in the way Japan proceeds with its affairs. The dropping of the Atomic Bomb on August 6, 1945 had many immediate consequences. The most obvious of which would be the instant deaths of thousands of Japanese civilians and casualties. Many feel that the dropping of the bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki harmed the lives of innocent victims, unnecessarily.
However, others feel that if the Americans had staged a ground invasion on Japan, the war would have lasted longer and therefore more people would have been killed. The measures taken by the Americans were drastic. Resources on the American as well as the Japanese side were beginning to deplete and a tangible plan of action had to be enforced. The reasoning behind the decision of the Americans to drop the Atomic Bomb was that it would be a quick way to end the war.
However, this point of view was seen as selfish to many people. The only people who would benefit from this decision were the Americans. Since the area of damage was more concentrated, dropping the bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki would be less of a financial burden on the Americans. The Japanese army was nowhere near as powerful as the American army and it would be forced to surrender immediately. The effects of the long lasting radiation from the Atomic Bomb continue to harm and kill the people of Japan today. The civilians of Japan are forced to deal with the effects of something that occurred more than fifty years ago.
This seems like an unfair consequence put upon Japan for the benefit of America. However, many argue that many more innocent victims would have been killed if a large invasion of the Japanese Island had been staged. On the other hand it is argued that these people would have been soldiers and Kamikaze pilots in the army fighting for the country. Also the area of damage would have been larger if the Americans had decided to continue to fight. This would have cost the American side a great deal of money. In conclusion, the short and long term consequences have effected Japan as well as America a great deal.
If the Atomic Bomb had not have been dropped, maybe Japan and America might have been able to build stronger relations. If Japan was close to surrender; the drastic measures taken by America could have been avoided. America had no guarantee that they would win the war therefore they used the Atomic bomb as a last resort.
