In order to make the message effective and unforgettable the ad. uses several techniques which will be analyzed in this work. The first thing that catches the eye is the omission of the word leukemia in almost all the sentences. It is done to emphasize the message and also the ad. is directed at a particular audience - the readers of the newspaper Guardian which is a broadsheet paper and mostly read by businessmen and higher levels of the society. The advertisement starts with a rhetorical question; the writer attempts to establish contact with the reader, to create a feeling that the author is speaking directly to you. The advertisement starts with a dramatic vocabulary in order to get an effect on the reader (terrible).
