we live in a society where man seems to have found a way to justify his actions to a world that readily accepts specious reasoning over bitter truths. honesty is hard to find not only becoz people have stopped believing that it is the 'best policy' but also becoz it is hard to accept the truth at times. in times such as these, we as people choose our leaders and representatives and want them to show us the way to a better universe. we like a sanguine view towards the future and prefer to turn a blind eye towards the impending dangers. expediency has somehow been assumed by most to be a substitute for moral and ethical justification. the question " what is right?" is now being replaced by "what is convenient and acceptable?" public officials represent the public and their needs. they r the voice of the society and such a voice should be able to speak the truth loud and clear. a leader is not a paragon but holds the responsibility of setting an example. morals, ethics and virtues were established by man as he learned to live in society, in harmony, to distinguish between right and wrong in the most logical sense. this distinction was not just based on tenets or cataclysms but on reasoning and ratifications. to be an effective leader, one must realize that what they do and say, shall affect and influence others. ethics have a deeper meaning than just being "good", it is a way of life. of all the people, leaders have a greater responsibility towards maintaining the standards of that way of life, to prevent the society from being led into a chaotic, unprincipled world. becoz when that happens, there shall be no difference between men and animals. as social animals, we have our decisions made by volition and not mere instincts. effective leadership has always been vaguely defined becoz it has never been understood why some men choose to follow and others lead the way. but it is sure that the man who leads should know where he is going. moral and ethical principles and standards makes the leader sure of going in the right direction in the right manner..
