Each country has great leaders in present or at the past. There are many examples in Canada and one of them is Lester Pearson. He is one of the greatest Canadian leaders in several reasons. During his life, formed prime-minister of Canada had done a lot of good and useful things to society. Pearson was a servant leader who was interesting in helping people.

And also he had the most important pillars of leadership. There are many highlights of leadership that we can take from Pearson's biography. He was born on April 23, 1897 in Newton brook, near Toronto. He attended University of Toronto until 1915. After service abroad in The First World War he continued his education at Oxford University.

He was a lecturer in history in Toronto until 1928, when he joined the Canadian Department of External Affairs as First Secretary. In 1945 Pearson became Canada's first ambassador to Washington. The next year he returned to Canada and became under-secretary of State for External Affairs. In 1948 he was elected to a seat in Parliament for Algoma East as a Liberal.

Pearson took an active part in the UN Organization and was president of The Seventh UN General Assembly. In 1957 Pearson was awarded Nobel Peace Prize for his greatest diplomatic achievement, proposal of sending UN peacekeeping force to the Suez Canal area. He became fourteenth prime minister of Canada in 1963, when the Liberal party, whose leader he was, won the elections. During his term, the Canadian flag was adopted; the Canada Assistance Plan and Medicare were introduced, as well as the Canada Pension Plan.

He is also responsible for the introduction of bilingualism and biculturalism in Canada. Pearson resigned as prime minister in 1968 and retired from politics. Lester Pearson died on December 27, 1972 in Ottawa. Pearson has one of the most existing life and I think we should all appreciate what he did. 1 Lester B. When Pearson became the prime minister of Canada, he tried to improve people's lives by listening their opinions and advices. That why he decided to make universal Medicare for all Canadians. Formed prime-minister did this because he understood that is not everybody cans effort to buy medicine all the time so it should be free. Pearson had a knack for recognizing talent and ability in people. Three future prime ministers were all members of Pearson's Cabinet.

This ability helped him to put right people in the right jobs, so government worked very well and were useful to the nation. Canadians elected Lester B. Pearson because they know that he is interested helping and serving others. His government introduced a national pension plan and a family assistance program that solve many problems on the society. Lester Pearson was president of The Seventh UN General Assembly so this means that he put helping people in the first place rather than himself. He did not care only about Canada but he took active part in helping to resolve world problems. Lester Pearson played big part on resolving the Korean conflict.

Pearson met with the United Nations and suggested an international peace-keeping force to supervise the withdrawal of the combatants in Egypt when France and England were close to start the war against this African country. The proposal was agreed to by the UN and the peace-keeping force included and was led by Canadian troops. Lester B. He had willingness to listen and hear other people thoughts and gain all the important aspects from it. Pearson was a good listener and seeker of understanding of what is being said. This pillar helped him successfully finished University of Toronto and Oxford University. By listing other people's problems, Pearson decided to adopt provisions for old age pensions, medical care, and a generalized. Many people had complains about the national flag, so he decided to chance it on flag that we see on present. Also he believed to the future and was hopping for the better life for the all people especially Canadians.

Lester Pearson made people hope in better life. That why, he played a key role in Canada's joining NATO. He thought that Canadians will feel safer if they would have guarantee of secure. Pearson did not make only Canadians hope for future also he helped Egyptians escaped from the war. Lester B. Pearson was a winner of the Nobel Prize for Peace for his efforts in creating the United Nations Peace-Keeping Force in Egypt. In his memorial Pearson wrote: " "I have done it by hard work... by welcoming every opportunity for new and more responsible duties" He had hoped for future and this helped him became to effective leader.

Also this leader shared his time, talent and energy in helping people to make their life better, and he did not care who gets credit for this. Even in his memorials he wrote "I have done it by hard work and long hours, by making it evident that I was available for whatever was to be done... ". Lester Pearson shared himself on oneself and invested his life in making a difference how things are. In order to become effective leader Lester Pearson used pillars of leadership. Lester Pearson proved in many ways why he was great leader.

He had done many useful things for society during his life. Also Pearson was interesting in helping other rather than him. And he used all the important pillars that helped him successful leader. While I was writing this essay I learned about Lester Pearson and I am sure that he is one of the greatest world leaders. Even trophy that is given to best NHL player named Lester Pearson Trophy.
