Although Condorcet's On the Progress Of Humanity posed various important ideals, few have been carried out to modern day. Still, many of the issues present during Condorcet's lifetime, the eighteenth century, are still applicable to the issues of the present time. During his lifetime, Condorcet was considered to be a liberal thinker. He believed that all prejudices and in tolerances should be alleviated. Yet, today society copes with the ever-growing problem. Racism is still rampant, and supremacy groups are still common. For example, the has many followers in America to this day. The group and others like it preach intolerance and hate to their followers. Condorcet also promotes religious and racial equality.
Today, religious and racial persecutions are rampant, despite many measures taken against them. An example of this is racial profiling in which people, mostly of minority groups, are suspected of crimes based on their nationalities. Although there are many activists strongly against it, it is commonly practiced by police officers and other officials. Although Condorcet brought these problems to public attention centuries ago, little has been done to right these injustices. Furthermore, in some Middle Eastern societies there are few basic liberties, and cruel and unusual punishments are common. For example, a woman was wrongfully accused of adultery, and sentenced to death by stoning.
For what seems to be a trivial crime, a slow and painful death is unnecessarily cruel. In several more modern countries, these practices have been outlawed but are not entirely out of use. In conclusion, Condorcet's On the Progress Of Humanity set forth many intelligent and substantial ideas. Yet, some have not been carried out even to modern society. Many social injustices are still prevalent in society, changing little from the eighteenth century to the twenty-first century.
