Emily Dickinson was born in Amherst, Massachusetts on December 10, 1830. Emily was lively, well behaved, and obedient child. She took part in the house hold at a very young age, she learned to cook and sew. When she got older she was sent to a very strict school where her and her friends lived and expressed their high spirits. To her family and her closest friends she seemed like a normal girl, and no one doubted that she would grow to a woman and get married and have children. But something happened in her live that has been speculation for decades.
When she was 24 her father took her with him to Washington D.D. and then to Philadelphia, this trip was her so called turning point in her life. Few years later she fell in love with Charles Wadsworth, who was married and the pastor of the Arc Street Presbyterian Church. Some of the letters to Charles shows that she thought of his as a muse, or someone who could inspire her, and someone who could love her imagination. In 1862 Charles took an assignment in San Francisco and this caused great depression in Emily's life. She withdrew from all social life and events in her life. All she would do is stay around the house wearing white and do house hold chores and write poems.
These poems she would write she would keep them to her self or send to Charles as Valentines. During her lifetime she published no more than a handful of her poems. Dickinson died at the age of 55, and no one knew that the strange girl was a poet. Around 80 years later some of her relatives had her poems published, and she was recognized as one of the worlds greatest poets..
