End Of The Film Evan example essay topic
The main difference between those two films is their endings. While Donnie Darko has a bad ending, Butterfly effect ends more optimistic. We can say the end of the film in "butterfly effect" is left to the audience to interpret. Also Donnie Darko had the time travel once but the main character Evan had the time travel several times. Both films impressed me much and changed my view about destiny. But the reason I write about ' Butterfly Effect" is that it was more realistic than "Donnie Darko".
(Rabbit) While watching the film my suspense level was always at the top. Some points were kept mystical and contradictory till the end of the film. At the first scenes in Film, it is a little bit hard to understand what is happening, but later on, the story can be understand easily. At the beginning we know just that the main character Evan is living with his mom and has a bad childhood with full of missing memories and black outs. He started to get psychological treatment right after drawing a violent picture in school and do not remembering it.
His mom was anxious, because she doesn't want her son to be like his father. The audience is curious about his father for a while. We can only understand Evan's father's existence after the first meeting of them in the insane asylum. His father tried to kill Evan by saying that he want to end this curse. Both Evan and we (the audience) didn't understand why his father is doing this because Evan realized his power and the reason why his father is in the hospital much later. But at the coming scenes we see that the ability to travel in time passed to Evan from his father.
As I said before however at the first scenes it was hard to understand whether if the memories are real or just imaginary, then mystery disappears. His aim was to use his power to travel in time by reading his missing memories from the journal he wrote for years. This was in order to change the destiny and make everyone happy forever. But it turned out and the time travel became a chaos. Every practice of travel ended with a disaster for one of his friends or for his mother. He kept going back again and again but the things got worse.
Every time he tried to put things right for one person, he destroyed another's life and even his own life. Neither he wanted to have a bad life nor did he want his family and friends to have a bad life. At the end of the film Evan finally understood that to change the destiny and put everyone's life in order is impossible. One correction causes another ruined life. According to him the mistake was to fell in love with Kayleigh.
So he used his power for the last time, to take her out from his life. I think he sacrificed him self by taking the girl, he ever loved, from his life. So he saved her life, his and his mother's. We don't know what happened to others, except Kayleigh, Evan and his mother? As looking to the visual effects; I found them satisfactory, as my personal opinion. The physical damage Evan gets during the time travel was not so impressive.
He was like drowning rather than time traveling. In comparison to the other time travel scenes the prison scene was more linked to the travel. He started to read his journal and some scarves appeared in his hands, which were valid when he was a little kid. In conclusion, I really loved this film and when we look to the critiques of the film most of the experts did like the film also.
