Equivalent Of Eating Money example essay topic
He reminds her of the day they spent at Kew Gardens. What the man remembers of the day was how he was ignorant to all that she spoke to him. What Vera remembered was him confessing his love to her and telling her that no matter how much he lover her, she would never love him back. Vera sees that he has changed a lot since their breakup. The man is considerably better looking from when she dated him. By the way he is dressed, it appears that he had done well for himself and has matured quite a bit.
He offers her a cigarette from a Russian cigarette case, which leads him into his next conversation topic. He tells her that since their breakup he has done what they had dreamt of doing while they dated, travel to Russia. In fact, he had become a world traveler who spent over a year in Russia. He tells her of the straightforward manner in which Russians acted and how much she would have enjoyed it.
He tells her how great of a listener she is. In fact, she is the only person he has ever been able to open up to. He brings up the Christmas eve he spent with her. He came with a baby Christmas tree and she ate the tin of caviar.
What he remembered were the insignificant details of how eating a tin of caviar was the equivalent of eating money. She remembered all the minor yet important details that he shared with her. Next he brings up the breakup. He tells her that when he first read the letter she wrote declaring the breakup, he was so heartbroken that he wanted to die. He also brought up that when he read it last week he couldn't help from laughing at it. Vera becomes upset and starts to leave but the man stops her dead in her tracks.
He sees that he is losing his chance to make amends and begins to talk more. HE rambles on and before he could realize it she has already left. In conclusion, we see a big change from the beginning to the end. When we first meet the man we think that he has done very well for himself. It looks that he is very mature and has an adequate source of income.
The more we learn about his past we see that he was very self-centered and rather tightfisted when it came to spending money. There is no proof showing that he has made any of the trips, he tells her of these trips only to make her jealous. The more he talks the more arrogant and selfish he appears. At the end she realizes why she left him the first time, causing her to leave.
