Evil Habits Of Dr Jekyll example essay topic
Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hydes fight for dualism demonstrates that there is in fact both good and evil in everyone. Dr. Jekyll is the protagonist of the story. In the case of the protagonist Dr. Jekyll is neither the male protagonist nor the scoundrel. He is not a good person nor is he entirely malicious. The antagonist is Dr. Jekyll himself, who through a false experiment undergoes a change that is both a mental and a physical change, through a mixed drug he developed in his laboratory, he becomes Mr. Hyde. Mr. Hydes personality is the complete reverse of the wonderful Dr. Jec kyl.
The conflict between the two characters whom came from the same guise is that, Dr. Jekyll is a cultured, well-mannered, normal and self-righteous person. Mr. Hyde, on the other hand is a wicked, ravenous, cruel and abnormal person. Dr. Jekyll symbolizes all the good every man or woman; where as Mr. Hyde symbolizes all that is bad in men or women. Mr. Utterson, a lawyer, went to visit Dr. Jekyll in regard to a will that he left with him. The lawyer was concerned with the fact that Dr. Jekyll was leaving all of his possessions to his friend and benefactor, Edward Hyde. Mr. Utterson shared his concerns with Dr. Jekyll, and Dr. Jekyll told him, my good Utterson, this is very good of you, this is downright good of you, and I cannot find words to thank you in.
I believe you fully; I would trust you before ant man alive ay, before myself, if I could make the choice but indeed it isnt what you fancy; it is not so bad as that; and just to put your good heart at rest, I will just add one thing: the moment I choose, I can be rid of Mr. Hyde. Mr. Hyde is wicked, ravenous, and abnormal. One black winter morning at about 3: 00, Mr. Enfield was going home and he witnessed a small, ugly man trample over an eight to ten year old, and left her screaming on the ground. Mr. Enfield ran after him and tackled him to the ground; as he did so he realized it was Mr. Hyde. It is ironic that Dr. Jekyll, a wise and well-educated gentleman, that he could turn into such a monster, such as Mr. Hyde.
Dr. Jekyll is a well-respected and honorable man of his community. As Dr. Jekyll starts his experiment, he finds that he enjoys being the evil Mr. Hyde. Even though he awards himself some comfort in enjoying his experiments, the evil habits of Dr. Jekyll slowly absorbs into good habits of Dr. Jekyll. The more he takes the drug the more often he becomes Mr. Hyde and his personality becomes like Mr. Hyde. In examining the symbols we might find that there is good and evil in every person. The good and evil is hidden in all of us; sometimes it takes another person to find it.
In examining the ironies presented here in the paper, we see that Dr. Jekyll was not telling the truth about Mr. Hyde. When he was questioned about Mr. Hyde he would try to ignore the question or he would say something that would direct Mr. Utterson, and the others attention in a different direction. Symbolism and irony in this story support that good and evil is the theme. To me it is apparent that the theme of the story is that there is good and bad in every man or women.
We all have our good and our bad points.
