The main thesis of the essay is that Disneys Pocahontas is the exaggerated image of the real historical character, although noble as well. Pocahontas is mentioned to be the only animated film based on a real character and this movie is the only shedding light on Native Americans and their life. Native Americans are people people who once lived on this continent. The stereotypes of Native Americans are thus misinterpreted and the animated film was rather useful for getting rid of such stereotypes. Native American were considered as something unreal and covered with mystery. They were thought to be faceless savages who fire arrows at the good guys from unseen hiding places.

Pocahontas showed that they had dynamic culture and were noble savages and had nothing to do with primitivism. The negative image was created by white ambivalence. (Woodward 1969) Pocahontas is a full-length animated film production which is told to be historical fiction. The movie was produced in 1995.

It was a new version about Pocahontas life and story. She was the first Indian women who married an Englishmen and visited England. The name Pocahontas means Little Mischief. It is the evidence that she was born in highly strict Indian culture and had little knowledge about white people, especially Europeans. (Pechora 1999) Pocahontas is based on real historical character.

Her tribe preferred to live in harmony with nature and deep forests. Their characters were similar and simultaneously different. They were similar, because they saw the white men for the first time, but the image of Disney character is more romantic than historical one. They were both the daughters of nature as they were brought up in Indian culture. It is mentioned that Pocahontas was like a credit for peace between Indian people and Englishmen in the beginning of the 16th century.

It was difficult for historians to reveal real historical documents and facts about Pocahontas and the legends says that Pocahontas was a young girls who saved the life of English sailor and explorer Smith. She threw herself between Smith and weapon. She was brave and courageous as the Disneys Pocahontas, but the animated version is too exaggerated and the image of Pocahontas is too exalted. The similar fact between history and animation is that Pocahontas married an Englishmen and accepted Christianity. (Rowntree 990).
