Day at the beach passed the sandbag onto the next person, I began to think about the awesomeness of what was going on that day. People from all over had banded together at the Lake St. Croix Beach to help the residents of the town and shoreline. The whole day had a unique feeling to it, the sunlight was shining just enough through the clouds to keep everyone at a comfortable level of heat, there was a cold frigid breeze coming off the river reminding us of it's presence and how we had to work against time and that river to save the town from certain demise. I was awe struck as I realized that most of the people helping here didn t even know anyone in the town but they were there to help them anyways. Most of them talking and having a good time in this time of worry and confuse ment of what would happen to them if their houses were to be taken from them. The people from all over the Twin Cities had banded together in this town to help people they didn t even know, friends and relatives.

It started in the frigid morning and continued till later hours of the evening, until the job was done, people stayed and did what they could, never complaining or whining. As we all worked in unison, we listen to the soft rock music of 94.5 and had conversations pertaining to our jobs, family, and life as we saw it; some of us even shared our religious beliefs and some even lack of! As the sweet smell of a crisp spring ran through the air and the sounds of music and people having a good time engaging in conversation and enjoying the time spent together, I found time to myself to analyze the whole situation in my mind. Here I was with my friends helping a community that I knew no one in and feeling great about what we were all doing. I loved every minute of it. Here was my school, friends, other people, new friends I had just made, all banded together by one goal, saving this river lined town.

I was lost in thought of the great contrast of the two sides of human nature. The side that is self-destructive, selfish, devious and self concerned; and in contrast you have the side that has a wish to build humanity up and make their work to better mankind, the unselfish, honest, and unselfcentered. The contrast is great and it makes you wonder what makes the person go one way or the other, it is upbringing or personal experiences, personality differences These are just a few things I wondered about how the vast differences are formed and where they come from. anyone in the tto help them a sof what The people they didn t even know, friends and relative sven know, . later until the job was done, , even 'tx; sound time to myself was, , that I knew no one i nas, other people, newby river linedRparts of just ing+doing nothing self-destructive, , devious up make work, honest, In the midst of all this activity I was able to find some time to think to myself.
