Many factors brought about explorations and discoveries throughout European Countries. For instance, many of the countries did not want to fall behind other countries. They feared that if they fell behind, then other countries would try to conquer them. Another reason many voyages began, is because many mathematicians believed that the earth was round and wanted to prove it. Although they believed this, it was hard to find anyone willing to make this voyage and prove the theory. Many instruments also were being invented in order to travel.

The compass, for example, was invented to check which direction a person was going. This was very helpful to people because it was not as easy to get lost as it would be without one. In the European countries, many people were making new religions and attempting to spread them throughout the world. For example, Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand agreed to let Christopher Columbus sail to the new world, for the purpose of spreading the catholic faith. Another reason for voyages was trading. There are many differences in materials between countries and people were curious to see what they were missing out on so they decided to explore other country's materials.

There are many factors that made people curious about discovering new land. This need for discovery still goes on today with people wanting more than they already have. People are not grateful enough with what they have and are never satisfied. On the positive end, discovering new things will bring about different changes throughout the world.
