Sports are a very large part of the entertainment industry. Everything from professional sports to children's sports serves as a source of entertainment for people of all ages. The people that use these sports for a source of entertainment are considered to be sports fans. Fans give a team pride.

It also gives them a reason to win. There are many different types of sports fans, but three of them can be easily identified by how loyal they are to their respective team. The first type of fan is Fair Weather Frank. He doesn't know the meaning of loyalty. He is only a fan of the team if they are winning. Every year Fair Weather Frank seems to have a new favorite team.

Fair Weather Frank never attends any games in person because he would have to drive all over the world each year because he cannot remain loyal to one team. He also has no team apparel because his favorite team changes so much that he would have apparel from every team in the league and this would be too costly. The second type of fan is identified as Stay-at-Home Stan. He stays loyal to one team but does not express his loyalty a great deal. He will watch the team play on TV at home.

If his team begins to lose, Stay-at-Home Stan loses interest and will change the channel. He will attend some home games, but never a game out of town. When he does attend a game he doesn't show very much emotion. He may clap from time to time but that is about it. Stay-at-Home Stan owns a few items with his favorite team's logo affixed to it. These items may include a t-shirt, baseball cap, or a team jersey.

The final and most identifiable type of fan is Hardcore Hank. Hardcore Hank is the epitome of loyalty. He remains loyal through the good times and the bad. He is so loyal that he attends every game whether it is out of town or not.

He is the one that is seen on TV with his face painted and shirt off in below freezing weather screaming his / her head off for his team. Hardcore Hank does not care if his team is losing or winning he is going to cheer them on. He buys everything he finds that has his favorite team's logo on it. His whole wardrobe consists of team apparel including socks and underwear. As one can see, sports fans range in varying degrees of loyalty. Whether somebody is a Hardcore Hank rather than a Stay-at-Home Stan or a Fair Weather-Frank does not make them a better person in general, just a more loyal sports fan.

A person should ask himself / herself what type of fan they are and if they realize they are not as loyal as they once thought, they should try and bring out the Hardcore Hank in them. There is a little of him in everyone..
