"An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge", to me was about a man swindled into being killed. Before you die, your whole life flashes before your eyes. But for this man, it was not his life, but what could " ve happened instead of him dying being played out in his mind. Peyton Farquhar was a slave owner from Alabama that highly supported the south. The story started out with Farquhar standing on the edge of the bridge all tied up 20 or so feet above the swift moving river. There were soldiers posted all around so he could not run away even if he did end up getting free and running for it.

You no idea of what was going on and, you could tell that the situation was very serious. Farquhar's eyes were not blind folded so he could see everything that was going on. His main focus was the water, and the driftwood floating down stream. At this point he was already thinking of ways to escape his death that was very near.

Then shortly after you find out how Farquhar got him self into the trouble. A solider dressed in gray came to his house asking for water and since he was strongly for the south his wife was more than happy to give the solider a drink. So while she was getting the drink, Farquhar sat down to talk to the man. The soldier told him about how the union were going to use the railroad and, getting ready to make a move. So he asked the solider if he destroyed the bridge if it would indeed stop the on coming union or at least slow them down enough for the south to anything about it. The solider said it would probably work but, yet told Farquhar that any person trying to destroy a bridge would be hung by the army.

It ended up that same man that came to his home for the drink of water turned out to be a union solider in disguise as a confederate solider tricking him into destroying the bridge. So the union came to his home and, took him off to where the story started out. Farquhar was being hung. He fell into the water and lost his conscious then soon he saw the light from above soon he was floating again back to the surface this took a great while.

From my understanding he was under the water for a great deal of time so I knew it had to be a dream of some sort. When he did reach the surface of the river he regained his sense's he started swimming downstream. Then the army started firing at him while he was heading further down steam. To my surprise he was not hit once by a bullet or cannon blast again this was absurd and, I knew this was all in Farquhar mind. Soon he was on the shore grateful to be alive he feel asleep or rested shortly for a moment got up and, franticly ran very fast thought the woods.

You have no idea where he is leading you while running in the woods. Then all of a sudden he was at the gate's what of to be of his house he was in front of his wife all of a sudden he felt a grate pain in his neck the story flashes back to the bridge Farquhar upon the bridge again looking out over the water this all happened very fast soon the one of the soldiers say the word and release him to this death plunge. Now you understand none of what you saw really occurred at all and it was being made up in his head as he awaited being hung. Farquhar was hung dead on the spot. This story was somewhat miss leading me to think that Farquhar's thinking is what is actually happening. But what's really going on is that it was all in his mind.

His thoughts lasted about a day and a half but yet it all took a second to make up in his head, sort of a mind. I could not really decipher any real physiological meaning to this story. Watching the movie really answered a lot of questions for me and, helped me under the story more. It really was an evil plot to set him up in such a fashion. The whole idea was great to trick everyone to believing he was alive for all that time then all of a sudden flash back to him on the bridge being hung. I have seen this video before in high school so I knew what was going on.

The first time I did see this video I really had no idea what was going to happen next. The teacher did play the video about 3 times so we had a better understanding. I think it was great to express his thoughts as they rushed though his head while he was about to be hung. The way they showed it was classic and it was really tricky how they went about it also.

It shows how much one really thinks about in such a short time especially put in a situation as he was in. I also enjoyed that it was virtually a silent film and left your mind open for a lot of thought.
