Few Years The Sales Of Saturn Cars example essay topic

Saturn says that they are "a different kind of company, a different kind of car". General Motors is the company that owns Saturn. Before Saturn, General Motors were barely selling any cars. They were starting to lose their business to the foreign car companies that could offer a compact car for cheaper. The reason that they said they were going into business was to offer a car for cheaper just like the foreign car companies.

Their mission, in part, was to market compact vehicles, developed and manufactured in the U.S. that are world leaders in quality, cost, and customer satisfaction. It was also to sell 80% of its cars to drivers who wouldn't otherwise buy a General Motors vehicle. So the different kind of car was going to be the cheaper car made from their company. General Motors believed that Saturn was the key to its long-term competitiveness and survival. At first Saturn achieved a leadership position in selling cars. In their second year they sold 196,126 cars.

This made it the tenth top selling brand out of more than 200. When people originally saw the sticker price of the car they thought that it would be anywhere from $4,000 to $5,000 more than it was marked. Also that year Saturn would have sold more cars if it wasn't for limited production. More recently Saturn cars have been declining in sales. They still have a powerful fan base but it can't keep up with companies such as Ford and Mitsubishi which are both outselling them.

This is partly credited to the way the cars are made. The cars are easily dented and are not of as high quality as other name brands. Saturn is trying to keep its prices low but at a cost, and this cost is the way the car is made, such as the parts that go into making it. Looking from what I read it seems like Saturn will be in business for a little while longer. I didn't read anything saying that they are going to shut down in the near future, but if sales keep on track like they are now then you never know.

I think, at first, that the idea that General Motors had for the Saturn car was very good. They had all the good ideas. They wanted to make a car cheap with high customer satisfaction. That is what I look for in a car. I believe this is why at first the companies sales were great, but as time went on the prices of parts started to go up and they didn't want to make the cars price change much, because they want to offer a cheaper car. So this is why they started to make things cheaper to put into the cars.

After time word spreads around and if people start talking bad about the car then less and less people will want to buy it. I believe that if in a few years the sales of Saturn cars keeps dropping then they will have to get rid of that line of cars. General Motors will not run the company anymore if they are not profiting from it. So what I see from the sales dropping every year for the last few years I doubt that they will go back up. So I believe that it is a possibility that in the next few years we may see little or no Saturn cars at all..
