Film Makers example essay topic

Do film makers as artists have a social responsibility? Do parents have to watch what they say while in front of their children? Do singers and performers have to watch their image? Does the President of the United States have to watch his public persona?

The answer to these questions and many more is yes. So then the question arises, do film makers as artists have a social responsibility? I believe that they do. As humans, we are very impressionable. Paintings, songs, music, books, the news, and even movies all have some sort of impact on us, as the viewer, when we see them. As adults, the impact is usually not as strong as it is on the younger generations.

We was young adults, or teenagers, are still trying to find ourselves. So naturally the impact is greater. We look to the actors and actresses on the big screen and wish we were just like them. They become our idols, and the people we look up to as we construct our lives. But the people we see on the screen are not real people. The people we see are images created by the film makers in their quest to create the perfect film.

As the film maker, they not only have a responsibility to portray the truth, but a responsibility to tell the entire story (both sides). In some respects they also have a moral responsibility. If the film maker knows that they are making a film that young children are going to want to see, then they should watch what they film. i.e. the language, actors / actresses, and the picture itself. While the film makers have a social responsibility, I think the viewer also shares in that responsibility. In the end it is the viewer who makes the decision to see or not to see the film.
