Movies often use different techniques to attract a certain age group. The director of Romeo and Juliet, Baz Luhrmann, shot this film with an urban atmosphere which target the teenagers especially. Baz Luhrmann manipulated Shakespeare's greatest romantic story from the Renaissance period background to this modern time period background. The film Romeo and Juliet used actors, costumes, and music to appeal all the teenagers around the world. The film Romeo and Juliet used Leonardo DiCaprio as Romeo, the protagonist; and Claire Danes as Juliet, Romeo's lover.

Leonardo DiCaprio, the most fair and fine-looking male in most of the girls' minds, for him to be Romeo, the protagonist of this great romantic tragedy, with his outer appearance and acting skill, he had captured most of the young teenage girls' hearts. Claire Danes, a lovely charming young girl, being Romeo's lover, had trapped most of the young males. Though the director used Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes, he still needs some costumes to match with these charming actors. The director used two types of costumes to differentiate between the two opposing families, the Montague and the Capulet.

For both families, they both wear Hawaiian shirts, jeans, and silver heel shoes. But there's a difference between their guns, they each has their own coat of arm on their guns. These kinds of costumes attracted the teenagers and gave them a "cool" image about the film. The film had good actors and costumes, it still needs some music to match with it. In the film, the director used a wild range of music, from classical music to rock music.

The contrast of the music could easily differentiate the anger and love between the opposing families and the lovers. Unlike the play in the Renaissance period, the use of music provided the film with an urban atmosphere which the teenagers would have more interest in. Baz Luhrmann, the director of Romeo and Juliet, manipulated the film which had successfully modernized the Shakespearean version of Romeo and Juliet into an urban version. With the help of actors, costumes and music, it increased teenager's interest to see the film.
