While reading Finding Forrester, I began to conclude that this is an outstanding film. In my opinion it depicts the great benefits of friendship and learning to face your fears. It was impossible to tell who benefits more from th e relationship and that is the way friendship is intended. Jamal, an outstanding student and writer forms an unbreakable bond with william Forrester, a prize winning novelist. Both of these characters also have a fear to overcome. One has a fear of his friends learning of his talents, and the other just doesn't want anyone to know he has any.

Effectively cutting himself off from the outside word, William finds himself being pulled back into life as he helps to develop the writer's voice in Jamal. Jamal finds more than a mentor, he finds a appreciative fan and true peer who inspires and challenges him to chase his dreams and become the writer he really is. In many ways Jamal does the sam e thing for William. Jamal teaches Forrester that life isn't something you run away from, you embrace and expierance it. I believe this movie is title Finding Forrester for two reasons. First, Jamal finds Forrester.

He helps Forrester to live again. Jamal even takes William to a Yankees game so he could get back into socializing with others. It didn't work, even though it as a good try. Jamal is seperated from William in the crowd, the minute Forrester realizes a that Jamal has disappeared, he gets panicky and finds a closed off space to hide in until Jamal appears again.

At the end of the movie, William comes to Jamal trial to speak on his behalf and the viewer then realizes that Jamal did make a breakthrough. Secondly, I believe in a ay Forrester found Forrester. As I stated earlier in the paper, William learned to embrace life. He learns to believe in himself enough to write another novel and dedicate it to Jamal.

Whatever fear it was he had preventing him from interacting with the outside world, he finally overcame it and even went back to Scotland to be with his family. It is my belief that if Jamal had not met William or vice versa, William would still be in his apartment hiding behind his window. In this film I could see myself in Jama's shoes raster than Williams. Jamal maintained a "c" average just enough to get by. My family situation is also similar to his. I come from a single parent home.

My younger brother could be so much more than what he is now but he is satisfied with his position in life, so who am I to judge? There is only one facto that would affect the outcome of this movie if Jamal was white and Forrester was black, that one factor is Richard Crawford. Professor Crawford was a bitter blowhole. He couldn't write so instead became a english teacher. Ironic or just me? He gave Jamal alot of grief over his work.

Not wanting to admit that just because he was black, that didn't mean he was there just because of a basketball schlorship. I think that with all the pressure that Crawford gave Jamal, he didn't do anything but make Jamal want to strive harder to prove Crawford and anyone else who doubted him wrong. I loved the scene in the movie when Forrester stands up and says that he gave Jamal permission to write his paper and that he knew Jamal. The look on Crawford's face was to dye for. All in all, I gained alot from this film. The bond of friendship, facing fears, and inspiration among a few other things.

In this movie, I think that everyone got their own special message from this film. After watching thi movie, I've learned that you never know who you might find a friend in.
