According to the Webster's dictionary, folktale is a story, usually of anonymous authorship and containing legendary elements, made and handed down orally among the common people. Folktales are the ethnographic idea of stories and tales, of a specific ethnic population. Thus, a folktale story is the oral history of a specific culture in society. Folktales have such a broad existence and a great deal of popularity due to the storytellers. The reason why fairy tales last such a long time is because of the storytellers and by the way they are expressed. Usually, storytellers were simple people, which went around the country especially to small villages telling the stories they knew.

People from all ages would gather around and listen to the storyteller. Without knowing the popularity of their stories and before scholars decided to write these fairy tales down, they were all ready spreader worldwide. And the strange part was that all these fairy tales had exactly the same concept. The reason the stories would spread was because of people moving from one place to another, and because we all have the same universal quality of imagination. For example, fear and anxiety lead us to the creation of the same stories. Folktales found itself spread from Europe, Asia, to South America.

The scholars began the task of writing down folktales and found themselves writing tales, which resembled each other. For example, Cinderella had more then seven hundred variants exist throughout the world. However, as these stories were spread around the world, each one pointed out the cultural differences.
