Most of these forests are found around 0-50 degrees north latitude, which means they are found between the poles and tropics. Climate: Deciduous forest regions are exposed to warm and cold air masses, which cause these areas to have four seasons, which are summer, autumn, winter and spring. The temperature in these regions varies widely from season to season with cold winters and hot, wet summers. The average yearly temperature is about 10^0 C. There are also different kinds of plants like mountain laurel, azaleas and mosses that live on the shady forest floor where only small amounts of sunlight get through. Animals need the trees because they provide shelter; some use them for food, and even for the water from the leaves. The trees adapt to this forest by having thick bark barriers on the trees to keep the animals out and the trees from dying. Because the precipitation is spread throughout the year, during the winter months it is usually and unavailable to animals. Animals living within this biome have to adapt to cold winters and hot summers. Leaves generally fall off in the fall, leaving animals with less cover to hide themselves from predators.

In the deciduous forests, there are animals such as deer, gray squirrels, mice, raccoons, salamanders, snakes, robins, frogs, and many kinds of insects and birds. In the winter however, most of these animals migrate to the south where it is a lot warmer.
