During the last twelve months First Ukrainian International Bank has focused on the development and modernization of its telecommunication infrastructures, new and existing software and the improvement of informational security. The opening of the new Head Office in Donetsk completed the formation of the Bank's computer network, estimated as one of the biggest in Ukraine. The extension of the branch network required the implementation of local computer networks in Gorlovka, Soled ar, Ismail and connection to the Bank's general computer network. Research and development work on the choice of facilities has been carried out to ensure efficiency and security of the computer network in view of its probable further extension. In 1997, the Bank, in cooperation with KPMG, carried out an investigation on the level of informational security of its computer network. In accordance with the recommendations to increase the security level the Department of Technical Information Security was organized and the first steps were made to separate the personnel functions and to reserve key computer network resources.

In order to raise the service level of the Bank a multifunctional automatic telephone stations produced by SIEMENS were installed in the Head Office new building which allows the Bank to provide a high quality communication service to more than 300 users in the Bank and International Business Centre. This was achieved by means of a direct digital connection to UTE L network. The creation of the plastic card servicing processing centre based on ARKSYS company software involved complex software installation, development of intermediate programs for ARKSYS, MIDAS and FUIBSYS systems and adjustments and installation of ATMs. The facilities are designed to serve more than 100 thousand debit cards. At present the preparatory work for the connection of the Bank's processing centre to VISA and EUROPA international financial networks is being carried out. Technical solutions for problems associated with POS-terminals servicing debit cards settlements have been identified.
