Free Agency Companies example essay topic
Before the start of the free agency period, company's we lead by a CEO and managers. They would tell their employees their tasks and set deadlines and goals for their projects. Now everyone is starting to use this free agency way of running a workforce. The free agency is based on individualism. This means that they are more focused on themselves as individuals, rather then the company, family, or community.
The free agency generation is focusing on their career destiny a better lifestyle and be able to show their talents quickly instead of working their way up the ladder as in the traditional sense. In my opinion, I do believe in free agency. I think in this day in age things are changing, as they do all the time. The people in the world today are all worried about being ahead of the competition, and in order to do that you have to be a step ahead of your competition. This means you need the best in the business, or certain individuals to get the job done. I don't think that this can be done by just an individual though.
I think that today's workforce needs to get away fro the CEO tradition and move towards more group oriented styles of leadership. This way the group comes together and decides on their own issues instead of the CEO doing all of the talking so to speak. If you haven't notice in the last few years CEO's have not done a great job of keeping their companies together such as the Enron scandal. Therefore, companies can pick the best individuals in the workforce and tie them together in certain job styles and let them become as one an lead themselves to success. This idea of free agency could also cause a lot of problems in the workforce as well as helping the workforce.
If the individuals do not work as a team and use leadership skills, they probably will just end up hurting the workforce. They have to be willing to nominate someone in their group as the leader or maybe captain. I used the word captain, because I like to look at this idea of a team of individuals as a baseball team. Say you have 20 players on a team and they were all very talented, but had no ability to work together as a team. In this case they are not going to play well together and will probably end up a %.
500 winning ball club, or as in the workforce they would be a middle rated company. Now if you get them working together and they become a team with out any individuals in it you will have a team with the best talent winning a championship. The team would also pick their best player and hardest working player to be their captain or leader. I think this idea best shows an example for how the free agency companies of today should be ran.
Their still is a major problem facing the free agency operation. Just like in professional sports, companies have their workers sign contracts to work for them. Using the example of professional sports I will demonstrate the importance of this problem. Players in professional sports these days look for the highest paying team to join when their contracts are done. They do this regardless if they even like the team that buys them. This also takes place in the workforce regarding to someone taking a job they might not be very interested in. they take the money even though there is one out there they are more interested in. so when a person that has really good skills in a area and a certain company is looking for them, that company will try and throw enough money at them to get them to work for them.
Most of the time the reason for the high amount of money offered is because of ability of the possible employee, location of the job, and if the person is very interested in the job. So this causes people to unhappy with their job and really not put their full effort into their ability. They need to find the job in which they are more interested in and settle for the money that is offered for the job that they can enjoy and live their life happily without stress. Money is not always the way to a happy and stressful life. The last topic I would like to talk about in this paper, Is whether or not leadership of the past is a basis for leadership of the future? Well leadership is always going to be the same thing.
It might have different way to be used, but to be a leader you will always have to have leadership characteristics. Leadership requires confidence, assertiveness and mutual respect. Leaders take calculated risks and are innovative and confident in their decisions to do so. They realize that being timid will not get them where they want to go. This confidence and assertiveness will usually trickle down to the people they are leading. The quality and effectiveness of a leader will often show itself by way of the team's effort as a whole.
For example I will use a coach of a team. A coach's confidence in the team can give team members added strength to do extraordinary things. One also must have respect for the players; if athletes are not treated with genuine respect, they will not respect the coach. Sincerity is important because players can usually tell if positive talk is phony, and in that case they won't take it to heart. So if you as a leader don't use these ways to lead in the future you are not really going to get anywhere in the business world. I believe that leadership of the past will never be taken place of by anything different because of all the success it has had.
We have always had presidents and we are the strongest government in the world. The reason for this is the fact that those presidents use leadership and always will. In conclusion, there will be some changes in the business world with free agency. Furthermore, the free agency era will never last long if they do not use leadership and their abilities that they have individually with others in a team. It is ok to look for the best possible opportunities for yourself, but keep in mind you can not get anywhere in life with out the help of someone, I guarantee it.
