French And English Blockades example essay topic

281 words
I asked congress to go to war because England felt they had power over us still, French and English blockades are hurting the economy, and because new territories would be a great addition to the nation. Henry Clay greatly convinced me that England was a problem with our national affairs. He said, "Sir, is the time never to arrive, when we may manage our own affairs without the fear of insulting his Britannic majesty? Is the rod of British power to be forever suspended over our heads?" (27).

That statement alone, convinced me that we needed to rid ourselves of England. Furthermore, upon this idea of war, I thought about the blockades that the French and British are imposing upon us. We can't go on like this, our economy will no longer exist if this keeps up. The main War Hawks statement that stuck with me was, "For my part I am not prepared to say that this country shall submit to have her commerce interdicted, or regulated, by any foreign nation". (26). Not only did that convince me to war, but the seizure of many American ships by the French and English made me furious.

War was imminent. Finally, I thought that new territories added to the nation would be nice, and would prove to England and France that America wasn't a little baby anymore. I wanted to show Europe what we could do and take their empires from them. I want revenge.

I hate you I hate me I hate my family you bastard! Let me in! I'm having epileptic seizures, now what?
