The Two Towers Author: J.R.R. Tolkien This story is the second part of the 3 book series, The Lord of the Rings. It takes place on Middle Earth, around the year 1450 there. The characters consist of many different things. Like, hobbits, elves, wizards, orcs, and men. The story is about a hobbit, Frodo Baggins, who's father, Bilbo Baggins, finds a ring in The Hobbit. The special thing about this ring, is it has power to make the person who wears it invisible.

There were also 9 other rings like this one, but this ring was the "One". In, The Fellowship of the Ring, the evil king Sauron comes back. With this ring, he can become very powerful. He sends 9 black riders out to find the ring. Frodo needs to go to Mount Doom to destroy the ring, but he can't do it by himself.

The Counsel sends 7 with him. They have to go South, but on their way there, they get attacked by the Orcs, and they are all scattered. Sam, and his master, Frodo separate from the group, and Aragorn, Gimli, and Legolas. The other 4, one of them which is Borimir, is killed by the Orcs trying to protect Frodo and Sam. Gandalf was killed in The Abyss, when he fell in. The other 2 are hobbits, Merry and Pippin.

That was all in The Fellowship of the Ring, and there is a lot more in The Two Towers. In the first book of The Two Towers, The story is on Aragorn, Gimli, and Legolas. They find Borimir half-dead, and he says the Orcs took the two hobbits, Merry and Pippin. The 3 try to catch up with the Orcs, but the Orcs are fast on foot, and they can't catch up with them. After about 7 days of trying to catch up with the Orcs, the men of Rohan, people that ride on horseback come to the 3. The men of Rohan tell them that they killed all the orcs that had Merry and Pippin.

They just happened to lose 7 men and 4 horses, leaving 3 empty horses. Then the story switches to Merry and Pippin, when they first get captured. The captain of the Orcs, Url keeps them alive, because their boss Sauron told them of the hobbits, and one of them has the ring. They have to run really hard a long time, until the day the Men of Rohan attack.

They got lucky and escaped without getting killed. They head East, into the forest. They were told not to go in there, but they do anyway. While they are resting in the forest a huge thing comes up to them. It looked like a half man half goblin, but it was atleast 14 feet tall and had 7 toes on each foot.

They learn that these things are called Ents, the elves brought trees to life, and this is what they got. They go around with the Ent, Treeabeard. He is the eldest of the Ents, so he is basically the master of the Ents. All the Ents go to a meeting at Crick Hollow. They are talking about going to Isengard, the tower in which Sauruman the White is.

The story then goes back to Aragorn, Gimli, and Legolas. After the people of Rohan give them their horses, they set off on their own. That night, when they are sleeping, Sauruman takes their horses. The next day, they stop to rest, then they see a man that looks almost exactly like Sauruman, but it isn't.

It's Gandalf, who use to be Gandalf the Grey, but is now Gandalf the White. I don't know how he survived falling down the Abyss, but he survived. They set off to Rohan. When they get there, Gandalf summons The oden, the kind of Rohan to a strong man. His guard, Wormtoungue had been making him feel old and weak. Gandalf got him to be himself again, and they all set off to Isengard.

On the way there, they take refuge at Helm's Deep, because they got attacked by tons of Orc / humans. They withstand all of them, but there were many deaths. They continue on to Isengard. They finally get there, and what do they find, but the battle has already been won, by the Ents.

The only thing left standing is Oct un, the tower which Sauruman is in. The Ents couldn't destroy it because it has some magic on it. Gandalf talks to Sauruman, and offers him freedom, but he refuses, so Gandalf breaks his staff. When they leave, Sauruman throws the orb at them, and when Pippin picks it up to give it to Gandalf, it feels very heavy.

That night, Pippin just had to see what was so special about that orb. He took it from Gandalf, and went back to where he was sleeping and stared into it. He was hypnotized, and he saw some dark figures that were very scary, and he fainted. The next morning, Gandalf sees a black rider, but he's not riding, but flying.

Gandalf takes Pippin on his horse and they head back. Then the story switches to Frodo and Sam. They are going on their way to Mount Doom. The way is very treacherous. They have to go down a cliff, about 14 fathoms.

Luckily, Sam has a long rope made by the Elves. It is a very strong, long, thin rope. They both get down safely, and while they " re going on, they hear a hissing sound behind them. They look to see what it is, and they see that it's Gollum.

Gollum was the one who had the ring, that Bilbo took from him. Gollum use to be a hobbit but he used the ring so much, it's evil took over his body, and now he is a little THING. Sam gets him tied up in the rope, and tells him that either they will kill him, or they will let him live, but he must guide them to Mount Doom. He agrees to be their guide, and a good guide he is. They don't get caught, until they " re at the gates of Sauron's Castle. They don't get caught by bad people, though, they get caught by the same people of Aragorn and Borimir.

They leave Gollum behind, and go to their hideout. They talk a lot there, and then they see Gollum, catching fish in their lake. Frodo tells them not to kill it. Frodo goes down there, and gets Gollum to come with him. They make him be Frodo's guide again. They get to the house of the "Black Riders" hey have to go up 2 huge flights of stairs, until they get to the top.

They must pass through the Hallway to get out. Gollum leads them in there, and it is so dark and smelly, they lose Gollum on the way. They keep going on and they get to a turn and they go down the next hallway. They feel like they " re being watched, so they turn around and see many eyes staring at them, the eyes come closer and closer. Then Sam remembers a gift Lady Lothourien gave them. It's a star, that lights up when in dark places.

Frodo takes it out, and it is shining very bright, and he starts proceeding again the eyes with his elvish sword that glows when near evil. The eyes go back, but there is a new challenge. They get to the end of the hallway, but they can't get out, because there is a huge spider web over the door. Sam's regular sword can't do anything, but Frodo's sword cut the web easily. They thought, "what could make a web so big" and they got their answer soon. A HUGE spider comes in the hallway, Sam starts running, leaving Frodo behind.

When Sam is looking back, someone puts a hand around his neck and eyes. It was Gollum. They start fighting, then Sam gets on things, and is winning, but Gollum runs away. Then he remembers Frodo. He ran back in the hallway to find the huge spider over Frodo read to eat him. Sam rushes up, takes Frodo's sword, and starts swinging at the spider.

Sam isn't good enough, and it get's a sting at Frodo's neck before it's dead. Sam saw that he was dead now. He left him there and went out of the hallway. He then hears Orcs, coming from in front and back. Sam puts on the ring and stays low. He overhears the Orcs, saying that Frodo isn't really dead, and he will recover in a couple of hours.

Sam then runs after them, but they diss apear. That ends this part of the series.
