Many instructors are often so taken with novelties such as animated flashing text and GIFs that they insist on using them on their course sites, even though they do nothing to enhance or inform the course content. However, I believe that we will soon reach the point where people stop adding flashy animations and graphics simply because they can, and start including only those items that help to engage people in the content.
