Genial Slaves And The Transfer Of Hatred example essay topic
On the one hand, Walter is a perfect example of this. Walter wants more for all black people. He wants to be better and have more. Walter not only thinks of himself when making plans, he makes his dreams for everyone. Also, Mama shows ways of organizing blacks. Mama tries very hard to keep her family together and does anything that she has to.
She wants to move into a new place so that her family can be more of a family. Mama said in the story, Son – I just tried to find the nicest place for the least amount of money for my family (Hansberry 355). She wants them to be close and wants it to be just them that live together. In fact, Assagi also organizes blacks. Assagi had said that he wanted to marry Benetha and move to Nigeria with her.
He wants to take control in Nigeria. Assagi said that he wants to go to Nigeria so that he can teach his people. I believe that he feels the need to help them so that they can have a better life. Thus, by organizing other blacks, they feel as though life will be better. Along with the organization of blacks, hatred is also a part of life that is very common among many people. While there is hatred there will also be transferring hatred.
In the first place, Walter shows that he transfers hatred. Walter yells at Ruth telling her that she is useless. Even though Ruth is his wife, he often yells at her for different things. He also gets mad at Benetha because she wants to be a doctor. Walter feels that she shouldn t go to school to try and be a doctor because she is a woman. Still, Benetha shows her hatred.
Benetha gets very upset when she doesn t get what she wants. She gets mad at Walter a lot of the time. She said about Walter, That is not a man. That is a toothless rat he's no brother of mine (Hansberry 380). She was upset about him losing her college money and so she said what she felt. Another person that shared their hatred openly was Mama.
Mama got exceedingly angry at Walter and said, You you are a disgrace to your fathers memory (Hansberry 346). She was angry with Walter for not being the father / husband that his father was. Mama also hates the lifestyle that she leads; she wants life to be better for her and her family. In brief, transferring of hatred is everywhere that you go.
Among the organization of blacks and the transfer of hatred, additionally sometimes people are forced to do unwanted jobs that end up acceptable and benefit also. First, Walter is a chauffeur. Everyday Walter says, Yes, sir; No sir; very good, sir; shall I take the Drive, sir? (Hansberry 344) To him that is a job that is undesirable, but he knows that his family needs the money. Walter really wants to be the boss, but knows at this time that is isn t possible.
He keeps bringing home the paychecks hoping that he will someday get a better job. He wants the best for his family especially Travis and will do anything for him. Next, Mama shows her ways of being a genial slave. Mama cleans house and never complains about it. She knows that it is something that needs to be done and wants her family to feel comfortable. She would do anything for her family at any cost.
Then, Ruth shows her ways of hospitable work. Ruth cooks not only in her house, but in others also. Ruth works in white peoples houses cooking them food and watching their children. It is also an unfavorable job, but she enjoys it.
Walter thinks that she shouldn t work in others houses, but instead stay home and take care of Travis. Ruth knows that she needs the paycheck to keep her family stable and so she never complains. Therefore, jobs are a necessity while sometimes unwanted and may benefit your family. To conclude, throughout the story it is obvious that African Americans went through many struggles. Characters in A Raisin in the Sun demonstrated the organization of blacks, transferring of hatred, and the portrayal or genial slaves. Due to the struggles of a white dominated society, life was very difficult for minorities to live.
If you have a dream it is best to go for it instead of sit around and watch it fade into nothing.
