Girls Hair example essay topic
A common acquaintance and well-wisher to both, desired me to write a poem to make a jest of it, and laugh them together again. The most import and and funny thing in this work is that Pope uses lots of exaggeration. For example he writes about a scissor as if it is some kind of war machine. When the guars cut off her hair it seems like its is the end of the world for the girl but it is not a serious situation, no one was harmed but just a piece of hair was cut off. We see that kind of stories every day. Exegerration is a part of our lives.
We like to see people around us who care about us. But in this poem this need of the girl leads her to make affectations. She is never really sick but she pretends to be sick to take people's attention. This is the annoying side of the girl, the Lord's annoying action was that he was not able to accept that he can be defeated by a girl. Pope thinks that both Lord and the girl is acting childishly. They exaggerate the situation and that causes a funny scene.
Pope doesn't make fun of them directly, cause this can make things worse. We can call this as mock aristocracy. The aim of Pope is not to make fun of people and laugh at them but while using mockery he also tries to make them see their faults by not offending them. As i know Pope is against the idea of offending people.
Pope also uses a style which was used in greek and roman classical epics. Using this style makes the work even more funnier, Gods and all of the stuff. I mean this is really silly... what god has to do with a girls hair? If it off so what? It is sure not the end of the world (well maybe for the girl).
Mock epic makes the works more funnier and interesting. I really enjoyed reading the 'Rape Of The Lock'.
