When TITANIC became the hot hit in 1997, this human tragic drama moved the whole world. People in our world share same basic feelings. That is why such a movie can cross country boarder. From business viewpoint, for a movie producer, it means that he care not only about TITANIC making profit in the home market, but also about the fact that it was successful in foreign countries. When our world become a global village, what does this trend imply for companies and for managers? The answer is the personnel of an organization must have a global mindset in order for the firm to succeed in the international marketplace.

First, global mindset helps managers to find out the potential market. Why do some companies spot opportunities when others miss? The reason is mindset. I read a story before.

Two shoe-makers, one is hometown market oriented and another is international oriented. They went to a foreign country... An organization's mindset is its theory of the world. Successful organisations have better theories than unsuccessful ones. Managers that want to operate globally must open themselves and be prepared to adopt successful practices wherever they come from. Second, Global mindset helps the management to set up company's international image.

Companies such as Coca-Cola, McDonald's and Walt Disney have become world leaders through the strength of their international image. Today, Children in other countries out of America maybe do not know who is American president, but they must know McDonald's and Walt Disney. These companies' image has impressed in people's hearts. Global image is a way of saying your company makes a difference, which moves you up the pecking order. ' Third, Global mindset is the future trend in the new century. Two years ago, when I worked in AT&T, I was very impressed by the working environment.

You can easily find Chinese engineers work with India engineers shoulder by shoulder, you can easily find Japaness accountant and American Treasury work in the same office. In AT&T, people have to act globally and think globally. I believe in that globalization will be the trend in the 21st century. If you build a new machine, your competitors will also have one with in several months. Building a global company is not so easy to copy.

Globalization is a long-lasting competitive advantage. Company's future depends on the development of a global mindset. Our world is becoming smaller and smaller. The company, which stays at home, is pushing itself into a corner. To be local is to be small; to be local is to be passive. What is the key for management to succeed in tomorrow business world?

The answer is global mindset.
