Gun Control Since the early days, gun control has been a never-ending debate. It is because of the fast increase in crime, the fight for the right to own a hand gun, the introduction of legislation for gun control in order reduce the crime in the United States, that this issue has been hotly debated in recent years. The streets of America are now a war zone especially right here were we live.? Florida has the highest crime rate of any state and the sixth highest homicide level? (web). A sad fact but true. Many people feel that gun control violates their right to own a gun the second amendment says so: ? the right to bear arms?

I personally share that point of view for it would not be in the constitution to begin with. However, there is no doubt that something must be done in order to reduce violence and to make America a freer country to live in. I believe that gun control should not take place for it does not reduce crime, it only increases the debates and as an alternative there should be a stronger education. First, gun control does not reduce crime. After doing my research I was impressed to find that guns and violence are not as linked as much as people think they are. Curtis Lovelace confirms that??

Both Australia and England have already banned personal ownership of guns, but violent crime is not down in either country. In fact, in Australia violent crime is up in every category. From 1997 to 1999, murders were up 6.5%, and attempted murders rose by 12.5%. Increases were also reported in assaults, kidnappings and armed robberies.?

(14) I think that the issue is not how many guns are wandering around but who actually owns them. Gaddini 2 Gang members and drug dealers are the main problem. It would be ridiculous to say that only because people own guns that they are going to go out and shoot people. Moreover, putting gun control into practice would only make it better for the black market to grow. According to Bret Begum, Lucy Howard and Susannah Meadows?? if people are not allowed to bear arms, then they will definitely buy them in illegal ways?

(9) Not only criminals but ordinary people should be able to own a gun. Thinking about my own life I would definitely feel safer if I knew there was a gun in my house and that I could use it in order to protect myself. Curtis Lovelace offers the view? ... Most of the times criminals run away if they know the victim is armed? (16).

Evidence confirms that gun control should not take place. If gun control were put into practice would that end the debates? I seriously doubt it. People have different points of view on this subject. I believe that by making this issue so controversial is only making it worse. Arguing about gun control does not solve the main problem, which is the lack of values and morals in society.

If gun control did not exist then the arguing would be over, people would have no choice but stick to what is settled. Of course that there will always be people that are against and in favor of gun control but I learned that making the issue more important that it really is only makes it worse. Some feel that owning guns only contribute to more violence?? the advocates state that guns are a public health issue and almost deadlier than automobiles to the public? (web) and in this way gun control should exist. Meanwhile, America is not even ranked amongst the ten top most violent countries We cannot deny that sometimes people only want to fight even when they do not really care what is they are arguing about. It is human nature. Society should focus on other alternative solutions to battle crime.

On the other hand, I do believe that other alternative solutions should be considerate. There is no doubt that education is where all begins. What is it that our children are learning? Society is going trough a lack of values and morals.

Every human being should know how to love themselves and love life in general. Gaddini 3 There is something that children are not learning and that is why they become criminals. Lately, we have seen very young children firing guns. A child cannot be twelve years old and already know what a gun and killing is all about. Media definitely plays a very important role.

Not only television but the Internet, video games and newspapers are filled with violence and picturing murder as a normal thing. Wayne Whiten and Margaret Lloyd say that? Numerous studies suggest that extensive exposure to media violence contributes to the development of aggressiveness in some children [?] growing up to aggressive adults? (208).

Education must take place in order to win the war against crime for it is people who kill and not guns. If people own a gun then they should teach their children all about it in order to live risk free. The author Thomas Wales suggests that?? education on gun storage and removal strategies for example, may reduce gun violence for targeted groups at high risk for suicide or unintentional injuries? (135).

Education is primordial in order to live in a better and safer world, only with education is that we learn to become good people and healthy people. The most fascinating thing about my research is the statistics I came to. I was impressed to see how our modern world is full of violence. It is time we woke up and realized that something is very wrong. As a conclusion I believe that by gun control and by disarming citizens, the entire society is at risk of attack, by neighborhood criminals or even by international terrorists. When it comes to dealing with crimes and death it is difficult to know what is the right thing to do.

Gun control is probably going to be an issue discussed for as long as delinquency exists. For now society should focus mainly on finding alternatives to fight against violence.
