Gunslingers The Wall Beside Gerard example essay topic

1,007 words
Gunslingers The wall beside Gerard exploded as a high velocity bullet struck the already heavily battered bricks and sent them shattering outwards in a spray of red shards. Gerard stood still, one hand casually flicking the ignition wheel on his lighter. As he lit the end of his cigarette, another volley of bullets stuck the wall behind which he was hiding. Bullet holes riddled it like holes in a Swiss cheese, and the cover was becoming steadily more useless. He took a puff and tucked the black lighter back into the pocket of his trench coat. He put two fingers to the cigarette and removed it from his lips to breath out the slow stream of smoke whilst his opponent continued to waste his bullets and his time shooting aimlessly at Gerard.

A row of bullets riddled the wall five feet to his right and he called out, "Hey, nearly got me that time". In a mocking voice. His enemy muttered a curse and Gerard heard the sound of footsteps approaching. The cowardly bastard had called for backup. Oh well, the more the merrier. A fresh stream of shots, this time from a multi-barreled rotary cannon spat out along Gerard's cover.

He watched with casual indifference as the red brick wall slowly disintegrated around him, slowly reducing his cover to just the tiny section of masonry that he hid behind. There was an ominous silence broken only by the sudden thump as an entire section of wall collapsed to the ground. Gerard heard the sound of one of his adversaries reloading their weapon. He dropped the cigarette on the ground and stamped it out with his boot. He reached within his trench coat and withdrew a shining silver revolver. He slowly and almost carelessly loaded one shot after another into the weapon, occasionally jerking his head to one side as a stray bullet clipped the edge of the wall.

As he placed the last shot in the ancient weapon he spun the wheel and gripped the handle. He then paused for a moment until his opponent's clip ran dry again and he heard the sound of the rotary cannon being loaded again. Gerard took one step to the left and with barely a glance calculated exactly how far his opponents were from him. In the same fluid motion as he completely removed himself from cover, he leveled the revolver at the two enforcers across the deserted plaza from him and squeezed the trigger. There was a resounding boom as the guns barrel flashed an explosion of flame and the man stopper shell in the barrel carved the air between it and the forehead of the first enforcer.

There was a fountain of red as the enforcer's head jolted backwards with a snap. The bullet exited the rear of the mans head and embedded in the concrete wall behind him, flinging the mans corpse to the ground, dead before his hands hit the dirt. The second enforcer raised his high-powered laser storm rifle and released a hail of white-hot laser guided bullets at Gerard. The gunslinger twisted one leg and dug it into the dirt as the enforcer squeezed the trigger of his weapon. He released the twisted leg with a push of strength and he spun on the spot, his trench coat billowing out like a great cape around him.

The bullets glanced off the steel plating etching the bodywork of the heavy trench coat Gerard had picked up in the under-works, and whizzed in all directions, small puffs of dirt pluming all around him. And as his spin concluded his opponent stared stunned at the man still standing before him. Without another word, Gerard emptied another shot into the second man, this time nailing the mans right arm. The enforcer grunted with pain and slumped his right arm, trying to desperately reload his rifle with only one arm.

Gerard watched him for a moment and then began to cross the plaza slowly, one foot in front of the other. The crunch of dirt seemed un-naturally loud in the deserted war-zone, the only other sound being the scraping of metal as the enforcer tried hurriedly to reload the gun. The sweat was beading beneath the blue face mask of the enforcer and the breathing through its gas mask was louder as he breathed faster in panic. Gerard rolled the barrel of his weapon playfully and let it spin. The enforcer began to slowly claw his way away from Gerard, trying to slide the clip into the weapon. But his frantic swipes were inaccurate and he continually wasted more time as the gunslinger stepped into the shade with him.

Gerard spun the center of the revolver again and this time aimed it at the cruel enforcer. "Not so much fun when your not fighting a helpless civilian is it?" he taunted coolly as the enforcer continually glanced between Gerard and the weapon in his own hands. He finally got the clip rammed in, but he still had to pull the release trigger to arm it, one handed. Gerard now stood barely a foot from the grounded enforcer. His ancient revolver aimed directly at the symbol of technological evil etched on the face mask of the enforcer. Click.

The empty chamber in Gerard's gun shuffled to one side and he paused. The enforcer tried to grip the gun under his arm and pull back the lever. Click. The second chamber slid aside. The enforcer finally grabbed the lever and pulled it back, aiming the weapon as - Cli-BOOM!

The dead enforcers head dropped like a stone as Gerard Race turned, his cloak whirling behind him, quickly leaving the scene before the entire army of Settlement 19 came down on him.
