Hard Work And Education example essay topic
The people that I want to show my responsibility to the most are my parents. My parent's influence on the importance of education throughout my life is a major reason that I attended college. Obviously, my parents have always stressed the importance of education. Growing up, my homework was always to be done before I could play outside. They never missed a parent-teacher conference or a PTA meeting. They began teaching me at a very early age all of the positive effects that college has.
They saw potential in me that they knew college would help develop. My parents have not only told me about the importance of education but they have also taught me through their experiences. My father graduated from high school with the aspirations of being a police officer. He worked hard to save money and finally was able to afford to join the police academy.
Almost immediately after graduating, he was offered a position on the local police force. After years of doing routine patrolling, he decided that he wanted something more. He researched many occupations under law enforcement and decided that he wanted to do detective work. He quickly found out that he would need to obtain an associate degree in order to be eligible for any detective position.
He worked full time and went to school part time for three years until he finally achieved his degree and was able to change fields. My father showed me how hard it is to go to school and work full time. He wishes that he had gone straight to college before attempting a career. My father is the perfect example of what hard work and education can accomplish.
However, my mother, on the other hand had a much bumpier path to follow. She dropped out of high school three months before her graduation. She married my dad when she was nineteen years old and was pregnant with my brother by the time she was twenty. She attempted to start a career when my brother and I were old enough to attend school. She found out that her lack of education would limit the work that was available to her. She worked many waitress jobs until she finally gained enough experience to become a restaurant manager.
Through good employer references, she was able to get hired on at a major hotel chain as the sales manager. After many years of selling hotel rooms, she received a promotion and became the general manager. Because my mother did not have enough education, she had to endure many hardships that could have very easily been avoided. In short, my parents have inspired and showed me the importance of higher education. They have helped to open my eyes to the responsibility that I owe to myself.
I respect them for the things that they had to face so that I could have a better life. I only hope that I can make them proud and show them just how well they have raised me. I would never be in college if it were not for my parents' inspiration..
