Harmonic Beats Of Certain Types Of Music example essay topic

542 words
Title: How Music affects the brain's productivity II Purpose: To assess which type of music: rock, reggae, classical, no music, and trance will raise or lower a right- handed junior male / female student ability to compute basic arithmetic problems. Independent Variable: The genre of music being played: rock, reggae, no music, classical, and trance. Independent Variable as a Cause: The brain is a muscle that thrives on stimulation whether it is from foods or math computation. The harmonic beats of certain types of music seem to stimulate neurons in the left hemisphere of the brain.

These are the neurons that are responsible for complex forms of problem solving. The beats in the music stimulate these receptors thus making brain activity faster and more productive. Dependent Variable: The scores of each individual after listening to each genre of music over a 45 second interval of the time. Dependent Variable as a cause: Some genres of music have more harmonic beats that stimulate brain activity. The more certain types of these beats each genre of music has will affect the test scores of the subjects. The classical music has more harmony than others therefore it will yield better scores.

Hypothesis: The brain is a muscle that relies on training for it to become stronger. The melodic harmony of certain genres of music stimulates productivity in the left hemisphere of the brain, the part responsible for productivity in basic computation. Since certain beats can be expressed in mathematical ratios, then it can promote brain productivity through the computation of basic math problems. By giving simple math problems in a controlled environment and viewing the results, it can be determined which music had more of these beats. If trance music is played, then the scores will be lower. If rock music is played, then the scores will be lower.

If classical music is played, the scores will be lower. If no music is played, then the scores will be higher. If reggae music is played, then the results will be higher. Safety Precautions: 1) Give each individual a code name 2) Test one person at a time 3) Do not post results 4) Provide same test environment 5) Provide a confidential environment 6) Give the same snack to each individual 7) Educational background 8) Same questions 9) Each group is the same age, sex, grade level, and writing hand (right handed) Control Variables: 1) Same Volume of music 2) Same age 3) Same sex 4) Same time of day 5) What the person ate 6) Time to take the test (45 sec) 7) Same time for rest between each test (15 sec) 8) Location of test 9) Test taking Environment 10) Distance from the radio 11) Same songs 12) Same Grade level 13) Math skills 14) Each person is right handed 15) Same writing utensil IV. Procedure: 1) Obtain 5 right handed Junior males and females 2) Get data table ready 3) Test boys on one day at the beginning of second period and give a snack of one chocolate donut to each subject 4) Test girls on day two and follow the same criteria.
