Assignment #2 - The Canadian Health-Care Crisis In the past, the health care system has not held a position in my list of concerns. However, about a few weeks ago, it ranked in the top five. Knowledge is directly linked to awareness. Therefore, I have to thank my English class. Analyzing and discussing articles amongst classmates regarding the health care system, has broaden what used to be a narrow image and interest in the subject. From the numerous articles concerning the current crisis in health care, I've chosen four that most interest me since they relate a lot to me and my environment.

I will first explain the reasons and steps I've taken to complete this assignment Then, I will go through the articles and try to relate them together. Now, it is quite obvious and easy to claim that the health care crisis is present through out the world. However, it is just not enough having a plate if there is no food to eat. Therefore, by stating the conditions and facts of my surroundings, I will add the meat of this whole project. I've seen, and heard the following, which aren't stories but reality.

People I love, or even acquaintances have been longing for their name to come up from the health-wise tortures; never ending waiting lists for operations. Hence, the boy whom I'm babysitting has a problem with his leg has been waiting for his treatment for quite some time. Sadly, and inexcusably, the now older patient will have to go through a more difficult process of healing. I, myself, am a perfect example of a victim of the crisis. I have waited numerous times, for countless hours, for a simple appointment at the hospital.

When a person is aching, he or she should be able to get medical care immediately, which is recently not the case. April 14th was a huge step for hopefully solving the crisis. The majority of the Quebecer's voted for a politician which concentrated on his list of concern with the health crisis included. In fact, it was my first time voting. I was very skeptical at first but after a research of all the candidatures has taken place, I felt reassured of my choice of electing the "saver" of this crisis. I hope that I haven't stirred myself wrong.

From the moment that the subject of my essay has become clear to me, I went straight to my research. Now, the obstacles were to find articles that hit the same main subject. Since the articles I wanted had to be recent and all related, I searched Canada. com every couple of days to see what news had come about. I fell upon many interesting articles that were related to my subject but had to limit myself, and narrow them down to four.

It was hard to choose from all those numerous, vic 1 ar ious articles. However, those chosen truly explained profoundly the society's health crisis, and its consequences. They each state solution, which would suit Canadian's best. Since all my articles are related to the same issue and come from known newspapers, the authors have all the same reporter tone. Their expositions were used as a rhetorical strategy. In addition, the facts gave the articles more credibility.

Hence, the reader has a better clarity of the problem and the issues that surrounds him or her. Statistics are used in two of my article. In these articles, two sayings have really captured my eye: "Beginnings are modest" and "We want this debate to be based on the truth". These are great examples of how statistics are used to sum up the speech of each politician.

This interesting and educative project made me more implicated in the subject of health care. The hours put on the hard work hadn't for goal of only getting a good grade but to learn more about this matter that attains my family, friends, and the whole society. It is, in fact, an unusual project. Since, it would not usually be assigned in another course. However, I am grateful because it definitely taught me a great amount.

Now I know who to vote for and have my own point of view on the health care system. Although the book we have read in class was very educative and informative, these articles touched a few possible solutions, which were not spoken about in the book. The class discussions were very interesting and I think were useful for this assignment to be done properly. Some students came up with article that I had not come across and that I really would never have thought were true.

One of the articles that captured my intention is the one that spoke about the American army giving free esthetics to their female soldiers. I found that ironic and serious, but in the same time, very funny. I hope the rest of the class enjoyed the project as much as I did and I hope you enjoyed it as well.
