At first, the interaction between eras is as effective as a well-oiled machine, but Timeline swiftly becomes an exciting old-fashioned adventure, when the students arrive in the 1300's.
Most of the plot is set in the Middle Ages, and Crichton marvellously brings the past to life without ever letting the pulse-pounding action slow down. At one point, a time-tripper tries to enter the Chapel of Green Death. Unfortunately, its caretaker, a crazed giant with terrible teeth and a bad case of lice, soon has her head on a block. This action-packed dictionary-bashing novel combines wacky scenarios and historical facts, which once again portrays Chrichton's ingenious capability as a writer. One serious down point though, is that the concept of time travel and an IQ of below 185 certainly don't mix but rather forms a confusing concoction of unintelligent deductions and confusing thoughts... Overall a good read and on a scale of one to ten I would give it a notorious nine.
