He was the leader of the Nazi Germany, the powerful force behind the holocaust and the mastermind of World War II. Adolf Hitler was born on April 20, 1889 in Braunau, Austria, a small town across the Inn River from Germany, he was the son of Alois Hitler and his third wife and Klara. When Adolf was three years old, the family moved to Passau, along the Inn River on the German side of the border. As a young boy, Hitler attended church regularly and for a time, he was a choir boy. Hitler attended High school in Austria and was a very poor student.
Hitler's academic abilities angered his father because his father had hoped that he would study to become a government worker as he had been, Hitler and his father strongly differed about career plans because Hitler wanted to become an artist, his father was a domineering, and at times a cruel man, his family life at home was not peaceful, his father often had fits of rage and battered his older brother in fron of him. D e spite it all, he had great respect for his father bceause he was old and powerfully built, his father was an authoritarian figure whose commands must be obeyed but his mother spoiled him, he was permitted to do whatever he wanted. Already, the seeds of many future disasters were being sown in him His father died when he was 14 years old leaving an adequate pension and savings to support his wife and children but the absence of a dominant father figure altered Hitler's position in the family. Hitler went to Vienna, the capital of Austria in an attempt to fulfill his ambition of becoming an artist. This attempt ended when he failed the entrance exam to the Academy of Fine Arts. When Hitler's mother died in 1907, he was 18 years old. He then decided to stay in Vienna. He took the entrance exam a year later at the Academy and failed it again.
Hitler spent six years in Vienna, living on a small inheritance from his father and an orphan's pension that he received. While in Vienna, he did not have steady work. He worked a variety of odd jobs, lived a lonely and isolated life, earned a living by painting postcards and advertisements and going from one municipal lodging house to another. He spent most of his time painting postcards to sell; he cleaned pathways of snow and got paid very little money. It was at this stage in his life - about 1908 - that he developed a hatred for the Jews. It was while in Vienna that Hitler acquired his first education in politics and continued his awareness of politics, showing interest in the Social Democrat Party, the Pan German Nationalists, and the Christian Socialist Party.
These groups helped Hitler increase his nationalism, and Anti-Semitism ways. Karl Ledger was a powerful politician that Hitler admired greatly. He was the mayor and was very distinct in his beliefs. He was a member of The Christian Socialist Party, and was very anti-S emetic. By studying the demagogic techniques of the popular Christian-social Mayor, Karl Leger, Hitler picked up the stereotyped, obsessive anti-semitism with its brutal, violent sexual connotations and concern with the 'purity of blood' that remained with him to the end of his career. Hitler learned to discern in the 'Eternal Jew' the symbol and cause of all chaos, corruption and destruction in culture, politics and the economy.
By 1909, he had no money and wandered Vienna. He slept in bars, shelters for the homeless and sometimes slept on park benches; he often had to get meals from charity kitchens. Life in Vienna was very rough for Hitler; he called his years in Vienna, "the years of hardship and misery". He made it clear that his struggle in Vienna was because of Jews.
This fact was further understood after having read "The Life and Death of Adolf Hitler" by Robert Payne wherein he explained that when "a man sinks into poverty and misery in a vast city, many strange things happen to him.
