At the strike of twelve, on Harry Potter's eleventh birthday, he finds out he is a wizard and is accepted to an unusual school: Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. After being introduced to Hagrid, keeper of the keys at Hogwarts, Harry sets off to a new world and leaves behind Aunt Petunia and Uncle Vernon Dursley, and his bully cousin Dudley. At Hogwarts, Harry makes friends with Ron and Hermione, and discovers that he is a hero in the witching community for making Voldemolt disappear, when he was only a baby. At Hogwarts Harry finds that the school is definitely unusual. There are flying broomsticks, wands filled with magic, dragons, and three headed dogs. Harry is put in Gryffindor, one of the four dorms where students play for the esteemed house cup.

Harry discovers he is a natural broom-flyer and soon he is put on the Quidditch team, a sport played in the air with magical balls. For Christmas Harry receives an invisibility cape, which he and Hermione use to sneak out of their dorm, and get caught by one of the staff. For punishment they go with Hagrid to the forrest at midnight, to see if they can save some dying unicorns. Harry finds a dead unicorn, and is attacked by something feeding off of it.

Luckily a centaur, comes to his rescue, and warns him that Voldemolt, the murderer of his parents, and the cause of the large scare on his forehead, is still alive and planning a second coming. Harry knows of a closed chamber in the school and with Ron and Hermione's help they discover that the chamber holds the Sorcerer's Stone. The stone can give someone eternal life, and that's just what Voldemort wants. Harry, Hermione, and Ron now set off to get the stone before Voldemolt does. They must go through five chambers before they reach the actual room where the stone is. In the chambers they put to sleep a giant three-headed dog, disentangle themselves from a killer plant, find one flying key out of thousands, play a violent game of chess, and finally, decipher a riddle that will allow them to enter the next room.

Solving the riddle, Harry enters the last room, and once again meets Voldemolt. Harry defeats him, wins the house cup for Gryffindor, and is once again hailed as a hero. The end of the year comes and with summer here Harry now is going home to his boring life with his aunt, uncle, and cousin. Next year there will be even more excitement and Harry can hardly wait.
