I.S. 228 Justin Havens 703 12/24/04 Holes Louis Sachar Fiction Holes is about a boy named Stanley Yelnats. Stanley has been sent to camp green lake (a juvenile center). He was arrested, and later guilty for stealing a pair of shoes. Back at school, there was a bully named Derrick Dunne.

Derrick used to torment Stanley. The teachers never took Stanley's complaints seriously, because Derrick was so much smaller than Stanley. Some teachers even seemed to find it weird that a little boy like Derrick could pick on someone as big as Stanley. On the day Stanley was arrested, Derrick had taken Stanley's notebook and after a long game of come and get it, Derrick finally dropped it in the toilet in the boys' restroom.

By the time Stanley retrieved it he had missed his bus and had to walk home. It was while he was walking home, carrying his wet notebook, with the job of having to copy the ruined pages that were messed up, that the sneakers fell from the sky. He didn't know what they were or whom they were from so he kept them. Then Stanley heard sirens and ran, he didn't know why he ran but he kept on running. Later Stanley found out that the shoes belonged to Clyde Livingston A.K. A sweet feet, his favorite pro athlete. He also found out that the shoes were going to a homeless shelter.

So Stanley was in trouble. The judge gave him a choice. "You can go to camp green lake, or to jail". Stanley never had been to camp before so he chose camp. Stanley then was on the bus for 8 hours. When he got to camp green lake there was no lake, there wasn't any grass all there wasn't anything but empty space.

Then Stanley went to the Warden; the rules were presented to him there. He was to do dig a hole 5 feet in diameter and 5 feet deep. But there really was one rule don't mess with the warden. He was introduced to his tent then he started digging hole first thing every morning after he got breakfast. They told him that if he found anything interesting he is to report it to the Warden. The reason he's been digging hole for the past month because the warden told him there digging holes to build character, but later they found out the reason they were digging was for money, gold and riches from Kissing Kate Barlow.

So as the days went past Stanley noticed more clues. When Stanley was sent to the warden for being accused for stealing a bag of seeds he noticed photos of Kissing Kate Barlow's pictures wanted. She was wanted for robbing banks and people. One of those people happened to be Stanley Yelnats. If it wasn't for kissing Kate Barlow Stanley would be rich.

Stanley then dug a hole and found a tube of lipstick that had the initials K.B. X-Ray then took it from him to get the day off, Stanley didn't do anything. When he handed it in the warden was happy, gave extra shower tokens and even more water. The next day they dug in the same spot that the warden thought the tube was founded in but it was really the hole Stanley dug. Stanley made a friend Zero. Zero was Stanley's only friend.

Zero knew Stanley didn't take the shoes, he knew he didn't take the sunflower seeds. Mean time Stanley was teaching zero how to read. Zero was a little boy; he was a home less kid. He was in for stealing a pair of pay less sneakers. Stanley then went to dig his hole, got some water and then Zigzag started a fight with Stanley. Then zero jumped on zigzag and caught him in a headlock.

Then the warden came to see what happened and Mr. Pendants thought zero was dumb so when Stanley told the warden he's teaching him how to read they thought zero was stupid. So Mr. Pendanski asked zero "what does c-a-t- spell". Zero was silent. So then Mr. Pendanski asked him to spell something else. He said what does D-I-G spell, then zero hit Mr. Pendanski on the head with a shovel, said dig then went off running. Then a new person joined the gang cause the Warden thought that Zero wasn't coming back so another little boy came.

They called him twitch; they called him twitch because he used to twitch all of the time. He was in for joyriding. Stanley was thinking about zero, so then he tried to learn to drive from twitch. So during water brake he tried to steal Mr. Sir's truck, and drove it into a hole.

Then he went off running. When he found zero he didn't want to go back to camp. Stanley tried to persuade him but it couldn't happen. When Stanley found zero, zero showed him a place where it had shade and gave him peaches that Kissing' Kate Barlow used to make for Sam before they killed Sam. Sam used to like Kate Barlow but they killed him because he kissed her. So she went on a killing spree for revenge.

The reason she kissed the people she killed was because the day they was burning down the school she asked the sheriff to stop them but he wanted a kiss so the next day she asked him if he still wanted that kiss so she killed him than kissed him and that's why she kissed the men she killed. When she robbed and killed many she was wanted and finally gave herself up. She buried the treasure she stole from Stanley's grand-father and told the warden when she was younger that the lake gob's on for miles and that she would not find the treasure. That's why the kids are digging. So when he ate the peaches they went outside and saw a rock that looks like gods thumb and climb it. When zero passed out Stanley carried him up the mountain saw what he drunk and he got strong to.

Stanley yelnats the was suppose to do the same thing but he didn't that's why they had the curse so when Stanley did the same thing that Madame Zero ni said he broke the curse. They ate onions and drunk water while they were up there, remember yellow spotted lizards don't like onions. When Stanley put all of the clues together he remembered the hole he found the tube of lipstick in and dug around it and found the treasure. Yellow spotted lizard was all around it but still they ate onions. The warden caught them and thanked them for there help, and Mr. Pendanski pointed out that Stanley's lawyer came the day before and found out that he was innocent. The next morning the lizards still haven't made a scratch but then Stanley's lawyer came to get Stanley.

As soon as Stanley came out because the Warden lied on him, and after that the warden wanted they treasure but she couldn't because it said his name on it and it was his property but Stanley couldn't leave zero so they were looking for his file but the warden threw it out he ran away. So when there wasn't a file it was a little weird to the lawyer so they just took him and he hired a team of private investigators to find her. When they did they lived next to each other and that's the story of holes..
