Abraham "Bram" Stoker was born in Clontarf, Dublin on November 8, 1847. His father (who was unnamed) was a civil servant and his mother, Charlotte, was a charity worker and writer. Sickly and bedridden as a child. Mother use to tell Stoker numerous horror stories as a child. Graduated Trinity College at Dublin with honors in mathematics in 1867. In college he was named University Athlete for marathon running and soccer.

Was a robust and genial young man. He was outgoing, bearded and deft in debate. Bram Stoker followed his father into a career as a civil service lead in the Dublin Castle. Before he left Ireland, he published his first book in Ireland "The Duties of Clerks of Petty Sessions in Ireland". He also found time to take unpaid positions as a theatrical critic and as an editor. In 1878 he was offered the job of a actor-manager at London's Lyceum Theater.
