Hypnosis example essay topic
Its use varies from person to person, although development of this skill can be enhanced with the guidance of an experienced hypnotist. (Baker-Jamb retz). Professional hypnotists share the belief that hypnosis is an altered state of consciousness. However most people don't feel any different under hypnosis than the way they feel in their everyday state. Hypnosis is a very powerful tool that can be used for a large variety of topics.
These topics range from increasing confidence and managing stress to quitting smoking and actually easing childbirth! The topic that caught my attention involved using self-hypnosis to improve an individual's ability at sport. The key to this, and most other topics, is to trust yourself and learn to find a deep state of relaxation that you can return to with a simple "trigger" word. Once you find the trigger word that is best for you, use it to take yourself into a completely different mind-set. Then you need to go through a sequence of affirmations to remind yourself that you are successful and to help you see the skills that you already possess. With this positive mind set, you will realize that the key to performing well in sports is the ability to relax and let things flow naturally.
Obviously you won't just be able go out and excel at a sport without practice and determination, but with hypnosis you will be able to relax and let all aspects of your skills flow with nothing being held back. Not only will your game improve, but your pleasure for the game will increase as well. Whenever you bring yourself into this state with your trigger word, you will be able to see yourself playing just as you like. You will notice how you look when you play and the way you feel inside.
Along with a steady improvement of your game, you will notice an improvement in your focus and your ability to focus at times when you really need to. In 1956, the Soviet Olympic team took along with them eleven professional hypnotists. Not sure what the outcome of this would have on their success, they had all of their athletes train physically and mentally. As it turned out, the Soviet's took home more gold medals than any other country that participated.
Many professionals on the down-slope of their career turn to hypnosis to return them to their peak. Physical trainers are paid a lot of money to bring out the best in their players. The reason they can't always do it is because they are physical trainers. Once the mind has been exercised along with the body a player can reach their full potential. Some people pray, some people meditate, but no matter what the ritual or routine they go through it requires extreme concentration to enter the right state of mind required to obtain complete relaxation. Different athletes do different things to prepare for the contests, but nonetheless any disturbance and they usually have to start all over.
Hypnosis has been tracked back over two hundred years. Ancients used hypnosis for meditation and pain control. For example, Hawaiian Tribesmen used hypnosis as a pain controller when walking across hot coals bare-foot. Through the late 1800's and early 1900's hypnosis has been kept alive by "on stage" acts, creating a belief that it is just a form of entertainment. People are just starting to realize the many ways hypnosis can change and improve your life and this is why it is becoming increasingly popular among professional athletes. "An athlete who has exceptional strength and ability is destined to be good; an athlete who has learned to use the power of hypnosis is bound to be great".
