Ian And Reene Throughout The Book example essay topic

The book I chose is called Wreck and was written by Allan Bailie. The main plot of this book is a cyclone strikes Albatross Beach when Ian Foster and Reene Thomson are holidaying there. The situation is Ian's parents have gone away for a while and Reene is supposed to baby-sit Ian. Once the cyclone hits their shack on the beach, the shack is destroyed so they seek shelter in a rusty old freighter on the beach. To there misfortune they climbed aboard during the eye of the cyclone and the ship was sent out to sea with them on it.

While exploring many strange occurrences happen without explanation. They soon discover they are not alone on the ship. Also to me the ending wasn't mush of a surprise. They were stuck on a boat with a monster and they got away basically in the end. This of course doesn't mean the book was boring just a little bit predictable.

There were enough things happening along the way to keep the book interesting. The main character, Ian is shy and doesn't seem very confident in the book, he explains it's probably because of his dad who's always putting him down because he can't do something right. Ian is afraid that he isn't to his father's expectations and that his father doesn't love him. His experiences throughout the book make him a stronger person and I think he's better for it. Reene has a bit of an influence on him also. She is outspoken and strong-willed.

Ian comes out to have a stronger mind, isn't reliant on others and isn't afraid to voice his opinions. There wasn't a clear message throughout the book but I would say it was to never give up no matter how hard things get or to overcome your fears. I got these messages by what happened to Ian and Reene throughout the book. They both occurred many hardships and never gave up.

Finally I would rate this book as average and would be suitable for Grades 7 and over because there is a small bit of language in this book.
