Image Of The Perfect Body example essay topic

548 words
From billboards on our streets to commercials and television programs in our homes, sex and violence are portrayed in almost every aspect of media, depicting how the society functions or how it should function in what the media believes is the ideal world. Everything that we see appears so normal and natural, that we don't even think, most of the time, about how it can negatively impact our lives. The beautiful and perfect bodies of the models in many ads, commercials, or TV shows, demonstrate how easy and perfect it is to become just like them, almost always focusing solely on the physical aspect. Ironically, other programs and movies, illustrate how easy and quick it is to destroy that perfection, creating the perfect balance between the two issues. Many of us, especially youth, are very attracted to all the images of the perfect body which we encounter through media in our daily lives.

Cartoons, TV shows, newspapers, magazines, comics, and anything else that we see around us displays the image of the perfect body and drives us to think that way; to focus on the physical and therefore lead to the sexual nature of everything around us. Through these depictions, we are also persuaded to follow them, sometimes to the point of not letting anything else become an obstacle and without thinking of the consequences that may follow. This type of thought can have drastic impact on how we behave towards others. Upon achieving a certain point of satisfaction, some of us tend to start looking down on those who have now become 'inferior' to us; as if we have placed ourselves on a pedestal above the others and look down upon them. This no only taints our own minds but also of those who are 'inferior' to us. We have created new conflicts and complexes for ourselves as well as others, which can, and usually result in, more stress and therefore allow us to become more prone and vulnerable to violence.

The more stressed we become the less tolerant we are. The less tolerant we are, the easier it is to become agitated. All of a sudden, anything and everything can break out into an argument. Simple conversations or even misinterpreted compliments can turn into fury because of how vain we have become; not realizing or purposely forgetting that at one point, we would have made the same remarks to or about others. This fury can turn into rage and not only be verbally abusive but become physically abusive; violent. The media might or might not realize how much impact it really does create on anyone and everyone.

Therefore, we should always at least try to be understanding of anyone, weather you are the 'inferior' one or the one up on the pedestal. We should try our best to be good people overall, and realize that everyone is different. Instead of attacking others, be more understanding of their situations, beliefs, comforts and discomforts. Try to create that balance between what is portrayed and what is reality. Everyone is different, no matter which way you look, and we can't all be the same; molded from one another..
