Theory: Time is a scarce resource. It is irreplaceable and irreversible... There is a whole system of smaller metaphors under the! (R) time is money! umbrella, such as: ! +/- yesterday is a canceled cheque, tomorrow is a promissory note and today is ready cash. Use it.! +/- (John A. 1988, P 9) Therefore, to save time we must spend time.
Maybe there are hundred ways of time management, but today I will only talk about the four most useful that I think, they are develop a personal sense of time, identify long-term goals, plan the day and make best use of your best time. First of all, if you want to manage your time appropriately, you should identify some long-term goals first.! ^0 It is wise to look ahead! +/-, Winston Churchill once said, ! ^0 but foolish to look further than they can see.!
+/- So first of all, think strategically about your life and work, and then select some features or areas to which you will guide yourself. People cannot manage time that is past, but they can examine how they managed it in an objective and realistic way. The key suggestion here is to keep a record of how you are spending your time. Whether you are at work or in the school, you should make out a fresh list of what you have on and also what you want to achieve in the free time available. Separate the MUST, SHOULD and MIGHT be done today. On the other hand, the quality of the time somehow is more important than the quantity of the time.
The chief principle of time management is to make the best use of your best time. If you can use the best or naturally high-quality time, you can employ it for high-quality work. All of these theories are quite useful both in work and at school. Experience in uni. I think maybe all of the students in the university like me have the big problem of managing ourselves time. We may cannot finish the time table that once we made up, we may fail to management all the homework in time and we always hand in the assessment by the dead line.
If we can obey the time management theoretically, then we can avoid the problems above. For example, I made up an object that I would finish my next assessment 5 days before the deadline, I would start it maybe one month before the deadline to allow myself enough time. And then I kept a record of all the things I had done and I hadn! t done and separate which I must, should or might done in each single day. For me, the best time is before 10.00 a. m., so I tried to do most of the work at that time. Finally, after my hard working of obeying the time management theory, I finished it as I expected and I got a lot of time to rework it to make it better. That is really a fantastic thing that I can do in the university because the good feeling without any pressure encourages me to do it next time.
Relevance in business In business world, what happens to a manager!'s time? They tend to work long hours, including paperwork done at home, business meetings and social events related to business. Planning is a key leadership function, but the research shows that few managers are skilled in this area. Uninterrupted periods of time when planning is possible are rare in the average manager!'s diary. Less than 5 percent of management time goes on planning. Except the theories above, there is another important principle of time management in business, which is learning to say no.!
(R) Go, sir, gallop, and don! t forget that the world was make in six days. You can ask me for anything you like, except time.! Said by Napoleon. (John A. 1988, P 34) effectiveness at work depends upon knowing what not to do.
It is not counseling to against helping people. It is talking about the times when you say yes when in your heart you know it should have been no. For you could have put that time to better use. Anytime, remember that you do have the right to say no. In the real business world, whether you are a manager or only staff, you do have the right to refuse some request when you may put that time into better use. After all, time is the scarcest resource in business.
After people have learned how to manage the time, they should try to be assertive both at school and in the work to value the time that they have saved..
