Cinderella vs. Danielle de Barbara Throughout history, women have been portrayed as the weaker sex. Truthfully, many women are just as physically and emotionally strong as men. Cinderella's strengths have been shown in the movies Ever After and Cinderella. In Ever After, a woman lost the only person that she ever really loved, but later found true love through the hardships of her lonely life. In Cinderella, a woman eventually found the love that she had always dreamed of throughout her slave-driven life. In both versions of this classic tale, Cinderella is strong, self-reliant, and fearless.

Cinderella's true strength was shown in Ever After and Cinderella. One major part in both versions is that Cinderella attends the Prince's ball alone. In Ever After, Danielle was persuaded by all of her friends to go to the ball, against her stepmother's wishes, in order to tell the Prince that she is really a peasant girl. She was only pretending to be a countess to save a friend's life.

Danielle's friend, Leonardo Da Vinci, finally said to her, "If you don't go, the Baroness wins", (Tennant). This changed Danielle's attitude because she was not about to let her stepmother win. In Cinderella, Cinderella just wanted to go to the ball because she had always dreamed of it. The Prince's invitation said that every girl in the kingdom was allowed to come to the ball, so Cinderella thought that she was going to be able to go too.

After a few run-ins with her stepmother, Cinderella went to the ball alone and was quite late. These incidents showed how independent Cinderella and Danielle are. The fact that Cinderella completed her own tasks showed that she was independent. She did not depend on the Prince and she was not waiting to be rescued. Both girls made the choice to disobey their guardians, walk into the Prince's ball alone, and both were not afraid of being the center of attention. While Cinderella and Danielle are independent, both are also very strong.

Many incidents in Ever After showed how strong Danielle was. In the beginning, Danielle found someone stealing her father's horse. She took it upon herself to try to stop him. She started throwing freshly picked apples at the thief. Later, Danielle managed to buy back an old servant with the money that the Prince, who had been the thief, had given her as a payment for the horse. In the middle of the movie, Danielle and the Prince encountered gypsies who tried to take them as prisoners.

The Prince begged them to let Danielle go, so they let her go and told her that she could take anything that she could carry with her. She then chose to carry the Prince on her back. She saved the Prince. In Cinderella, Cinderella did all of the housework completely and did not complain once. She had a great attitude and always smiled. Even though there was intense hatred for her step family, she helped them get ready for the ball.

The night of the ball, she had lost her glass slipper while running to leave because the clock had struck midnight. The Prince was going around door to door, fitting the glass slipper on every woman in the kingdom. He eventually ended up at Cinderella's house where her stepsisters tried on the too small slipper. Cinderella got out of the room that her stepmother had locked her in and did not hesitate to say something.

She ran down the stairs and told the Prince that there was one more girl living at that house. She knew that the slipper was hers and she knew that she was going to have the Prince. Along with being strong, another characteristic of Cinderella and Danielle is that they are fearless. In Ever After, Danielle was so brave when she stood up to her stepmother and stepsister.

Danielle walked into her room, finding her stepmother holding the dress of Danielle's mother up to her daughter. Danielle was furious so she slapped and chased her stepsister around the house. She told her stepmother, "I'd rather die 1,000 deaths that to see my mother's dress on that spoiled, selfish cow" (Tennant). Another incident that showed that Danielle was fearless was when she came home late after being with the Prince. Her step family came into her room the next morning and told her to get up and make them breakfast. She then told them to make breakfast themselves.

In Cinderella, Cinderella broke out of the room where her mother had locked her up, which showed that she did not care what was going to come out of this. She showed that she did not care what her stepmother was going to do. Neither Danielle nor Cinderella was afraid of their step families. Both Cinderella and Danielle many different characteristics when it came to attending their Princes' ball, accomplishing tasks on their own, and standing up to their step families. Cinderella and Danielle are two great examples of women of the present and future. Many women today are strong, independent, and fearless, just as Cinderella and Danielle were.
