Schizophrenia is a physical disease of the brain. It was first name "Dementia Praecox" which means "early dementia". It is the disabling of the major mental illnesses. A person could suffer one disorder or more than on with different causes. A person may exhibit different kinds of behavior at different times. They are the ones that feel anxious and confused at all times.

Schizophrenia actually begins appearing in the late teens and 20's. Striking mostly in men between the ages of 15 and 24 years old, and women between the ages of 25 to 34 years old. Children that are over the age of 5 years old can also develop schizophrenia. Almost 1% of the population develops the illness. Schizophrenia has different kinds of symptoms. One of them is the positive symptom.

Individuals with positive symptoms may experience hallucinations. It is when they sense things that do not really exist. Hearing voices that other people don't hear is the most common type of hallucination in schizophrenia. Such voices may describe the patient's activities, carry on conversation, and tell the person what to do, or lead them to danger. Sometimes the voices are complimentary, reassuring, and neutral. They also see objects or people that are not really there or experience unusual feeling on or in his or her body.

Another symptom are the strange and false beliefs which what they call delusions. A belief that is not subject to reason or not part of the person's culture. Sometimes they are quite bizarre. For instance, they started believing that a person on a television is delivering them a special message specifically for him or her. There is also the delusions of persecution are termed "paranoid". They believe that they are being cheated, watched, or conspired against at all times.

They can also suffer in not being able to think straight for many hours. The person will not be able to concentrate on a thought for a very long time, and can be distracted easily. Their focus of attention is very unstable. They cannot tell what is the relevant or irrelevant on a situation. Jumping from topic to topic making the conversation difficult to understand.

Positive symptoms also exhibit inappropriate affect. It has an abnormal emotion, and improper speech. Using weird tone of voice and diminished facial expression. For example, he or she might say being followed by demons and then laugh and giggle nervously after a minor accident. Secondly, schizophrenia also has its own negative symptom. Often people that are affected with the negative symptom show a blunted or flat affect.

This reduces their emotion expressiveness. This does not mean that the individual does not feel emotions but just cannot express it outwardly. It could become a stronger disease. They can also experience social withdrawal as a result of feeling safety alone and have their own world. Lack the resources needed to show interest in socializing. Depression is one of the biggest problem parts of the negative side.

It makes the individual feel so helpless and hopeless. Realizing that schizophrenia has totally changed their life. Depressed feelings are very painful and may lead to talk, attempt or commit suicide.
