Improvisation has the ability to arrive to conclusions or actions in an expedient and ingenious way when there are no other alternatives available. It is a means of avoiding stagnation. It is useful when there is uncertainty, few precedents, reliable resources or protocols, few facts and suitable routines; when there is little way of evaluating the relative efficacy of the various alternatives; and when there is pressure to act in a short time or with resources that appear to be sufficient. Modern organizational theory can only go so far to solve public administrative problems. However, with creative thinking such as improvising more can be done for the community. Motivation is more likely to be an outcome of recognition if the recognition is felt to be personal and sincere.

People dont want something for nothing, as much as they want something for something (Nelson, 2000). The something in the former is recognition and in the latter is job performance. Recognition also tends to have an inspirational value. This refers to the psychological element of an award and the level to which an employee aspires to gain a unique experience or possess something special. (Burns, 2000) To sum recognition up, it allows organizations to convey acknowledgment for a job well done without increasing compensation. Instead, it is done through maximizing appreciation.

Another aspect of a persons job that can effect their motivation is their role in the organization. Empowered employees are involved in making decisions that affect their part of the business. There are different ways in which empowerment can be used. One way is in a large system change.

Employees from all levels of the organization can be brought together to re engineer their portion of the company. This type of effort should be taken at Ale House and Brewery, which can result into fewer layers of management (there possibly will be no need for position that T holds), less paperwork and growth in sales. The fact that employees are involved in this process decreases resistance to change. This is because they themselves decided on the changes necessary. This also increases commitment and the quality of the plan is likely to be above what a smaller team could have come up with.

What is left to examine is which organization subscribes to which approach and for what reasons? It is possible to consider the major factor in this to be the issue of responsibility. The term responsible is firstly, sometimes used to mean trustworthy or dependable second, the term is used to mean obligation. Third, responsibility is sometimes used to indicate that an action or its consequences are attributable to a certain agent (Velasquez, 1983). Many individuals within Ale House and Brewery are scared of the book stopping with them so they create a code of ethics which, in terms of blame, is large enough to hide behind. Surely then, with the control-oriented approach the organization should be responsible?

On the contrary, with an organization that employs the autonomous approach ( Ale House and Brewery does), each individual must be responsible for their own actions since they are solely attributable for every part of every move they make. Having looked into the two different styles, therefore, I think that to control someones moral and ethical thinking with the ultimate aim to enforce them to acting in a particular way is wrong. Each individual, unless impaired by disability, has the power to determine what is right for them in a certain situation and therefore should have the opportunity to act accordingly. A person should not be told what to think simply for the corporate good.

If we are to deter corporate wrongdoing and be assured that corporate members will comply with our moral and legal norms, our blame and punishment must travel beyond the corporate veil to lodge with those who knowingly bring about the corporation's acts (Velasquez, 1983). In conclusion, if we as individuals want the power to think and judge for ourselves then we must accept the consequences of our own actions. Ale House and Brewery should have a choice. According to Hackman and Old hams Job Characteristic Approach, there are three critical psychological states that must be generated for an employee to experience internal motivation. These are personal responsibility for the outcomes of the job, work being experienced as meaningful, and knowledge of the actual results of the persons work efforts. Employee empowerment is the key in giving employees a feeling of responsibility for the work they do.
