In the 1800's the Northern and southern states of our country were two very different places, from their different economies to just the lifestyles of the people who live in these regions. Some of these differences however would lead to the eventual civil war in which the outcome would decide whether these two regions stay under the same power or break into two separate nations. The common thought of the main reason why the country went into a civil war is usually the issue of slavery back in the 1800's, but the reasons were much more detailed and complex. One of these big differences is the main economy in these regions.

The north was a more advanced, a more industrialized economy because of the lack of good soil to use for agriculture and the weather. Because of this, the north became a more industrialized economy and had the upper hand in better weapons and technologies than the south. The south however was an opposite kind of economy, more agricultural because of the amount of fertile land and was run on the trade and the shipping of the crops grown and the slaves. The issue of slaves was not the main reason for war however because the north didn't hate the idea of slavery, they just had no need for slave labor in this more industrial region with larger and bigger cities, and even though some of these people disagreed with slavery it was not the underlining cause in the start of the civil war.

But the different economies of these region could have led to the eventual outbreak of the war because each economy were dependent upon the other, yet both were able to establish trade outside the United States with foreign countries. I feel because of this lack of dependency from each other that each region (or at least the south) felt the tensions to become more independent from each other causing tension to build in the central government to try to keep the country together. Another reason that could have eventually led to the civil war was the population differences in these to regions. The north was more populated meaning cities and technologies within these cities had to grow at a more rapid pace and the more population within this region could have helped the northern economy greatly. Also the north had an abundance of outside influence from immigrants of other nations because most immigrants were more intrigued to go and settle in these northern states, and because of the greater amount of people living in this region, the north did have a greater sense of power. The south however had a far less amount of people in the region, and a less amount of foreign immigration to the region resulting in a lack of foreign influence.

Because of the smaller population the south was unable to establish much larger cities and had the lack of technologies the northern states were able to establish faster. Because of this reason I feel it put the southern states in a predicament where they had a sense of less power and because of that it may have raised tensions between the two regions. My final reason that I would like to include as one of the main reasons for an outbreak of war is just the overall differences in lifestyles from the northern states and the people who lived in them and the southern states and the people that populated them. Because of the reasons above, the economies and the differences in population, it is understandable why lifestyles would differ in these to regions. The north had set up large centers of commerce and because of this was able to live in much larger cities. With the north's discoveries of waterpower and coal power in steam plants they were able to grow and establish manufacturing at a higher rate.

With more production and more population in these cities they often became crowded and dirty, but because of this they were able to build harbors, streets, and sanitation system, public forces and above all had began a public education system where a minimum amount of boys attended secondary school and collages were reserved for the wealthy. In the north people enjoyed art and cities developed into centers of art and culture as well, and along with this northern cities started offering forms of recreation such as dancing, card playing, and the theater. Mainly in the north the cities determined the culture. In the however it was obviously different.

It was more of a political and economic lifestyle where visits to the south became major events. Because of the lack of big cities, the few cities the were large served as centers of commerce and trade to the south, and most of the small towns lived by the banks of rivers or by the ocean. Since there were much less cities and more farming, people became more spread out, and plantations because of this were able to become more self sufficient for them. Most people in the south had a lack of education and the only way to receive education was to have a private tutor hired since no schools were set up in the south at the time.

And the recreation in the south much differed than the north with people enjoying hunting, dancing, horse racing, and cockfights. And the one difference that most people emphasis on, the south's addition of allowance of slavery. I feel the differences in lifestyle could have led to the eventual civil war in just how we judge other peoples lifestyle sometimes. Like Each side could have just judged each other, thinking each of their lifestyles was better than the other, or even one of the other could have become jealous of the other regions amenities. Because of this tensions could have rose. These are the reasons I feel were main attributes to the eventual outbreak of the civil war, the differences in economy, population, and lifestyle above all else.

These reasons would contribute to the war at the least and would help develop a situation where the tension rose to keep the to regions and the nation one, thus resulting in the civil war..
