Infinite Glory Of Jesus example essay topic
Jesus has a glory in Himself that has a combing of attributes that would seem impossible in one person. He is unique, one of a kind. There is no one and nothing we could compare Him to. He is "Incomparable because in Him meet infinite glory and lowest humility, infinite majesty and transcendent meekness, deepest reverence toward God and equality with God, infinite worthiness of good and greatest patience to suffer evil, supreme dominion and exceeding obedience, divine self-sufficiency and childlike trust". The Beauty and Excellency of Jesus is a coming together in one person of the perfect balance and proportion of extremely diverse qualities. He is a blessed paradox.
I would like to explore 3 paradoxes of Jesus. II. Paradox 1: Infinite Glory and Lowest Humility. Phil 2: 5-7 "Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation taking on the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men". B. First, let us consider the infinite glory of Jesus. 1. John 1: 1, 14 "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God". vs. 14 "And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth".
2. Jesus was as much God as the Father and Holy Spirit. He testified of this in John 8: 58 when He was being questioned by the Jews, He states "Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM". He is the word of God made Flesh. 3. Romans 8: 34 Jesus is seated at the right hand of the Father.
4. Rev. 4: 8-11 The living creatures give no rest day or night praising Him who sits on the throne. The 24 elders cast down their crowns in adoration saying that He is worthy to receive glory and honor and power. 5. Rev. 5: 12-13 The Lamb who was slain is worthy to receive all glory. C. The Lowest Humility 1. John 5: 30 b "I do not seek my own will but the will of the Father who sent me".
2. Isaiah 53 He is the suffering servant. He humbles Himself to be despised and rejected by men. He would bear our sins and not raise His voice. And not only that but vs. 10 says that it pleased the Father to crush Him and put Him to grief that Jesus's our would be made an offering for sin.
3. Jesus humbled Himself to the point of the cross. He allowed us to beat, bruise, whip, and crucify Him all for love. 4. Jesus was the God-man. He was worthy to receive all praise, honor, and glory.
He was, is, and will eternally be God. He deserved nothing but praise because He is infinite glory yet He came in lowest humility as a servant to us and the supreme sacrifice for us all. 5. We can see His beauty in the blessed paradox of His worth but His willingness to put on flesh, humble Himself to death on a cross, and become our Great High Priest.. Paradox 2: The God-man Jesus. Jesus was fully God 1.
We established this somewhat in the previous point but lets go a little deeper. Colossians 2: 9 states "For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily". 2. John 1: 14 He is the only begotten of the Father full of grace and truth. 3. John 5: 26-27 The Father gave Jesus His authority. B. Jesus was fully human 1.
Jesus came as a baby. He had dirty diapers. He had to be taken care of by Mary. He had to learn His own words spoken that He spoke from the foundations of the world. He had to grow in favor with His Father and His creation in Luke 2: 39-40.2. Jesus had emotions a) Jesus had righteous anger.
In John 2: 14-16 He rebuked those buying and selling in the temple. b) Matt. 15: 32 Jesus' heart was filled with compassion for the multitude and He fed them all. c) John 11: 35 Jesus wept because of the unbelief of His closest friends. d) John 12: 27 Jesus says that His soul is deeply troubled and for a moment asks for the Father to save Him. Then He remembers His purpose. The word trouble here in the Greek is "taras so", which means to be in deep anguish and unrest in one's mind. e) Jesus rejoices. In Luke 10: 21 Jesus prays to the Father and rejoices (dance around wildly) because of the works of the 70. f) Jesus got tired. In John 4: 6 He is wearied from His journey and rests. g) He gets thirsty.
John 19: 28 On the cross He said "I thirst". h) He gets hungry. Even in His glorified body He asks the disciples for food in Luke 24: 41-43. C. Mystery of Mysteries 1. To ponder the incarnation of Christ is what we will be doing for eternity. The very fact that the uncreated God who exceeds all time and space, could place Himself in our frame. 2. The fact that God would want to take on our frame.
The God of all strength took on weak flesh just to be with us. IV. Paradox 3: God's hatred of sin and His willingness to become our sin. A. 2 Cor. 5: 21 "For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him". B. His hatred of sin 1. Psalms 11: 5 "The Lord tests the righteous, but the wicked and the one who loves violence His soul hates". 2.
Proverbs 6: 16-19 Six things that God hates (or despises), seven things are an abomination to Him (an awful stench). 3. God must judge sin because He is holy. C. He made the way by becoming our sin. 1. What drove a God of Holiness to become our sin? John 3: 16.
LOVE! 2. John 17: 24 DESIRE! 3. John 17: 26 COMPANIONSHIP! V. Meditating on the Glory of ChristA. John Owen in his publication wrote 5 ways to Meditate on the Glories of Christ.
1. Fix it in mind that this glory of Christ in the divine constitution of His person is the best, most noble, useful, beneficial object that we can have in our thoughts and affections. 2. Diligently study the Scriptures and the revelations that are made of this glory of Christ in them. 3. Having attained the light of the knowledge of the glory of Christ from the Scripture, or by the dispensation of truth in the preaching of the gospel, meditate upon it frequently.
4. Let your occasional thoughts of Christ be many, and multiplied every day. 5. See to it that all thoughts concerning Christ and His glory are accompanied with admiration, adoration, and thanksgiving. B. Final thought- I feel like Spurgeon when I endeavor to grasp the excellencies of Christ. He said, "Hope not, my brethren, that the preacher can grapple with such a subject, I am overcome by it. In my meditations I have felt lost in its lengths and breadths.
My joy is great in my theme, and yet I am conscious of a pressure upon my brain and heart, for I am as a little child wandering among the stars. I stumble among, I sink amid glories. I can only point with my finger to that which I see, but cannot describe. May the Holy Spirit, Himself, take of the things of Christ and show them unto you". That is my prayer for you.
