Iraq From The Weapons Of Mass Destruction example essay topic
The question here arises that: Has United States launched an attack against Iraq to punish them for past injustices they have done to us or to simply disarm Iraq for the sake of the humanity? Bush administration claims that attack on Iraq is meant to disarm Iraq from the weapons of mass destruction, but what we don't see is what's going behind the scenes. Don't we know that Iraq possesses an abundant amount of oil fields that can benefit us if we take control of their territory? But that's not the answer.
According to Bradley, an attack upon Iraq to avenge past injustices done by Saddam Hussein and his regime, or to punish Iraq for assumed involvement in the 9/11 attack upon New York and Washington, or to conquer the Iraqi nation or just for the sake of regime change would be wrong. He thinks that Saddam, who is in command of Iraqi armed forces, may be targeted and killed, not in response for the past injustices but to simply disarm Iraq. He also argues proportionality and proportionate means; this is to treat everyone equally regardless of their religion, sex, race, or nationality. For example, did Bush order shooting down of planes hijacked by terrorists on 9/11 to prevent them from using our own sources to attack on our cities and civilians?
We can't bomb our own cities and target a terrorist among several civilians. By the same token, we shouldn't go and bomb in Iraq and Afghanistan because there are several innocent civilians living there as well and fairness requires us to treat everybody same. Therefore, if the attack that has been launched on Iraq is meant to punish Iraqi regime for their past injustices would not be compatible with just war theory. On the other hand, if the attack is to simply disarm Iraq for the sake of the peace would be justified.
