Renaissance meaning "re-birth" descirbes a style of philosophy, visual art, architecture, theater, literature, and music for this period. Renaissance music started around 1450 and ende around 1600 when the Barque Music era began. At the beginning of the Renaissnace Europeans started to think less about the church and more about life here on Earth. Education became more avaliable to everybody and not just the wealthy not too mention their attitudes about themselves also changed during this period. Rich people began to help artists who excelled in visual arts, literature, and music, leading to hte great growth in all areas of study.

Individuals from all backgrounds who had any talent could travel around europe and show off their talents to whoever would listen to them. On some occasions musicians traveled with their patrons so that they could interact with other musicians and hear their music and discuss ideas for new music. One dominant style of the Renassiance era was that of the Flemish and French composers. Other national styles become distinct around 1550.

Along with the composers other people were helping with the music industry start ign with the man named Johann Gutenburg who figured out how to print books with movable type. In 1501 a man by the name of Ottaviano de " Petrucci had taking Gutenburg's idea and came up with his own for printing music. This idea changed the way that people experienced music. Now, people who wanted music could go out and buy printed music to sing around the house or for those special occasions. Along with printed music they could also buy printed instructions on music and dance. Not long afterwards it was expected of everyone that they know how to sing, play an instrument, and perform the popular dances of the time.

Renaissance composers were interested in chords. These chords made their compositions more harmonious. Music was of great importance in both secu alr and sacred life in Tudor times. Musicians were supported by the church, city, and state, particularly in royal and aristocratic courts. And another famous music composer of the renaissance was Claudio Monteverdi who was also an Italian composer.

He was the first great composer of the operas. He wrote his songs based on the mood that the words suggest. He is one of the true geniuses of Western Music. The renaissance spirit is often thought to be reflected in the music of composers such as Duffy and Binchois with their smoother, more flowing lines, and in Josquin's music particularly.
