Jaguar Xkr And The Aston Martin Vanquish example essay topic

750 words
In the new James Bond movie Die another Day, Jaguar will be sending the movie producers 8 jaguar XKR series sports cars that have been torqued, molded, and cut to fit the mean look for the role they must play as bond's newest villain's car. Bond will be driving an Aston Martin Vanquish and will have a dog fight type showdown on an iced over lake with the XKR being piloted by his new enemy; Zao. The results are simply breathtaking. Both the XKR and the Vanquish are equipped with missiles, machine guns, shotguns, anti weapon devices, and great looks. They are equally matched which makes for a great fight. They have both been equipped with a ford vs. 8 triton motor with 4 wheel drive systems for two reasons; the cars were just too powerful for the ice and the 4 wheel drive systems help keep the cars straight on the ice.

The scenes were filmed in Iceland against the backdrop of the Vatnajokull glacier, Bond tracks Zao to his ice palace hideaway and a car chase follows. The Vanquish features a vs. 12 motor that was dropped for a ford vs. 8 triton motor. All of the gadgets required extra space that the vs. 12 took up. Bonds car is loaded with twin automatic shotguns, rockets built into the grille, cameras the project images of the surrounding area the render the car literally invisible, ejection type seats, and ice gripping tires, bullet proof windows, and incredible bodywork. During the filming the Vanquish and the XKR had such a wonderful power to weight ratio the filming helicopter was asking the drivers to "please drive slower your going so fast its killing us".

The Vanquish takes on many traits from its predecessors. The famous Goldfinger car Aston Martin DB 5 gave its sophisticated, yet wicked, ferocious upper body, and cruel but contented smirk, much like bond after a night out with a bond girl. George Cottle drives the XKR as Zao's stunt double. He has piloted all sort of vehicles in his career including bikes, cars, vans, and ski-does: as well as setting himself on fire and falling from high buildings. When George mentioned that the XKR was one of the most thrilling and exciting projects that he's ever done it really means something. To get his XKR to perfection he had tons of new gizmos and gadgets installed some he needed, some were for show.

Among the favorites were the rear mounted gatling gun, dual turbo chargers, aggressive roll over hoops, missiles in the front grille, and my favorite door mounted rocket launchers. The XKR became not only a cool car, but a phenomenal car. I have always been the type of person to go the Bond movies just to see the cars. When I saw Die another Day I was extremely impressed by the XKR's maneuverability and power.

I was overwhelmed with excitement when the final car chase began. The Aston Martin's body work was pristine, and the XKR was just: green. (green happens to be my favorite color). I think the stunts performed and the shoots taken to film this movie were wonderful and the crews deserve a lot of credit for doing such a good job. The one thing that I'm not sure of is; can the next Bond movie keep up the high reputation that this one has? The jaguar XKR and the Aston Martin Vanquish have overall with their performance proved not to be kiddy-cars. They too will be being displayed at the L.A. auto show.

The crew was somewhat saddened when leaving the glacier because it was so gorgeous in Iceland. Now the cars are going to be joining the many cars in the Italian museum of cars, next to the ever famous Lamborghini Mercliado. At the glacier they were only on 6 inches of ice at all times. The cars were equipped with inflation gear to make the cars float if the ice broke. Otherwise it was 900 feet to the bottom of the lake and they have no idea of how they would have gotten the car-or the driver-back. So would the thought of plunging head first into freezing waters stop you from driving an XKR laden with guns and gizmos across a glacier?

I didn't think so.
